I grew up in Monticello. My parents left in 94 right before the decline. I passed through there last week. It's amazing how they just completely let a house go to shite and not fix or maintain anything. $30-$50K vehicles in the driveway while the house is literally falling apart.

well said. The scope of the complexes they build enables entire shitty neighborhoods to all move in at once. They bring with them all of their issues and refuse to try to acclimate with the new neighborhood they just moved into.
This is the reason i moved from the Shenendoah area to Livingston parish. It was writing on the wall when the St. Jean apartments got shoved down our throats no matter how many meetings we had at Jays Donuts.

They don't have any stake in it. They are parasites. They are killing the host.

It's simple.

Is this area really worse than Mall City?

Yes, but Mall City is still hanging in there, grappling with Old South BR for second place.

Nope, still resembles Liberia.

And what about Gardere at night?

Bad, but not nearly as bad as it was 10 years ago. Pakistan is starting to get less like 70805 and more like Valley Park (College Drive) area.

Another sad story is Villa Del Ray. My grandparents lived there when I was growing up, and it was an awesome neighborhood. Nice houses, nice yards, footbridges over the canals that was always hung out on, parks, everyone was very neighborly & friendly. It was actually a little upscale. Now it's completely going to shite, and it hurts, looking back on all the childhood memories that I have from that subdivision.

Section 8 is the cancer that destroys neighborhoods from within and without.

And some a-hole(TheIndulger) will call you a racist for leaving. But guess what you get labeled as for staying and fighting??? Yep, a racist. The St George folks are finding this out now.

And what do we do with cancer?

Do we run from it!? Do we quail in fear of what the cancer might think!?

No! We must fight the cancer! We must cut it out with whatever means are available! If not, it will destroy all that we held dear, and spread!
It will Kill our beloved LSU.

Do you want that? Do you want the fear of someone disapproving to destroy the Very heart of Baton Rouge!?

It's time we fought back.

used to Dove hunt in the back of Monticello a long time ago. They had cleared the land, paved the streets and put up street lights but no homes were built back there.
Could pull up in the truck, pull out chairs and blast doves flying across that tree line all day

5 years ago, my in-laws sold their 3,000 sq. ft. custom built home in Villa Del Ray for $160,000.
That house sat on a 1 acre corner lot on Vega.
Not even $55 per sq. ft.

Had some awesome trails back there that went back to that big power line. Made for some really good three-wheeling.

do a little street view tour through Monticello. You'll see it really isn't that bad. Sure it's %110 blacks living there but at least most of them keep up with their properties. Streetview tour

It's always fun to look in on the most dysfunctional black neighborhoods in the exotic American South and pretend we don't have any idea how we got here, make a few snarky comments, and then forget about it for another year or so.

We used to park on Flannery and hunt those same woods all the way back towards Monticello and the Bauxite mounds on Sherwood.
I'm sure we've accidentally shot in each other's direction a few times.

Right, or make absurd suggestions as to what to do with the inhabitants, like shipping them off to Detroit or some island somewhere, as if that's going to solve the fundamental problem of poverty in America.

Yea, I've done that. My parents moved to Cenral and I pass through the old neighborhood from time to time on my way out to see them. We lived on the main BLVD and that house is not being maintained to well. There's another house on the BLVD that was recently demolished because it was so bad.

Did you grow in Monticello??
