I mean, I literally just watched a white dude get passed the ball and entrusted to take the potential game-winning shot against the defending champions not more than 3 hours ago
My white bread comment was me taking a shot at the NBA fans who live vicariously through black super stars because they themselves sucked on the grade school playground. Apologies for not being more clear.

Hockey has lower viewership in the States as does Soccer but none of the MSB experts declare them "dying sports.
Because at least in Soccer's case it is becoming more popular here in the states, not setting record low viewership numbers like baseball is.

It's just another catchy argument people like to jump on to when they're feeling some dissonance about the fact that they actually have nothing interesting to contribute.
Meh, not like you've contributed anything factual yourself in this thread, old sport
And for the record, I don't hate baseball. Excited for the Royals as I live near KC. As for the point of this thread, it's off base because the WS game was a blowout, whereas the NBA game was a close rivalry game.
Baseball viewership is down for a variety of reasons, though.

I actually enjoy the slow paced nature of baseball
Too many guys named Eduardo and too many games

World Cup soccer drew more viewers in the USA than baseball. Now that's the ultimate indictment that a boring arse sport with redonculous diving draws way more viewers (or that's what I heard on the Jay Thoms show today so maybe that star is wrong)
Link to where anyone claimed MLB was increasing in viewership.
I'll wait.

Which is a foolish, foolish thing to say.
The team that won the last championship has guys from literally 7 different countries on it. Some of the biggest stars in the game today aren't even American.

Nah, it's clear that YOU sucked on the grade school playground, though

What the frick is this nonsense? The NFL is first in basically every statistic of "best" because it literally rapes all other league in terms of popularity. You can bend terms however you want, but this is a stupid fricking argument. I get your point. Your point just sucks.
the NFL is the most popular sport. college football is #2. nobody is coming for either anytime soon
but a big reason basketball is starting to increase in popularity is that the way we think about basketball, and how it is written about, is focusing more and more on advanced stats.
baseball, with its individual-based game, is still the king of analytics. basketball is trying to close some of that gap
football suffers in this regard. that doesn't mean it's going to lose viewers or anything. we're talking about the share of non-football fans or fan interest post-super bowl.

So are you arguing because you're trying to prove that baseball is less popular than other sports, or that it's actually dying and will some day soon cease to exist? If it's the former than you could simply post the Nielsen ratings and move on with your life, because I don't think anyone here is arguing against cold hard numbers.

I noticed you're dodging the posts you have no comebacks for, you racist, disgruntled giants fan, you

i never have said it would cease to exist. i mean it's never going to get hockey-level bad
but in a couple generations i wouldn't be surprised at all if soccer overtook it in terms of national popularity
we'll be like 60 at the time, so if this site is still around we can come back to see if i'm right. maybe i'll dedicate my millionth post to it

Are the Spurs even in the top 5 teams as far as jersey sales go? Are those really the guys the majority of young fans are looking up to? Let's not be dishonest here.

Absolutely there was some projecting there on my part.

Jersey sales are not the only measure of what fans look up to. No, the Spurs will not ever lead the league in jersey sales as a small market team.
But find me a young fan that doesn't look up to Tim Duncan. I'll wait
And that still doesn't discount the other international and non-black stars. The biggest free agent signing outside of LeBron James was Chandler Parsons. Dirk is a huge draw. Steph Curry is mixed. Yao Ming was foreign. The list goes on.
And furthermore, quit acting like the black stars are all these hoodlums. Kevin Durant, Zack Randolph, Kawhi Leonard, etc. are role models anyone would look up to.

My feeling with Soccer is that it's more apt in the US to be a national sport because of the very little and very pubescent ties teams have with the host cities. It's not like the Red Sox or the Bears or the Lakers who have been around for decades and decades.
And the structure of the World Cup makes it tough to care about the US team month in and month out.
AND if you're going to say that baseball is declining because it's inherently boring / slow then you can't get away with not saying the same about soccer without contradicting yourself.

i have never understood these arguments. i like all the sports. am i the only person who watched the WS game with the spurs-mavs on the flip?
how can you not like a sport? even shite that i dont personally enjoy like figure skating or some shite; i would never go on the internet and bitch about it

For the purposes of this discussion you equate the term "black" with the love & admiration of hip-hop culture, as I alluded to earlier in the thread. I don't mean to make my observation so .. pardon the pun .. black and white.

MLS is increasing in popularity every year and the league is expanding.
The Premier league is becoming extremely popular.

No, that's what YOU were doing. And being rather offensive while so doing, I might add.
I'm saying there are plenty of non-black athletes, and plenty of black athletes who are not, as you seem to deem, sullied by hip-hop culture.
Also, for the damn record, plenty of baseball stars are just as into hip hop as their NBA counterparts. Hell, the flatbill cap trend was a baseball carryover iirc

Okay. That's like pointing out the rising popularity of craft beer. Nobody is denying that it's happening, but I doubt you can accurately predict a pop culture trend's ceiling or future market share.

His arguments don't make any sense tbh.
