The narcissistic hip-hop generation prefers a blacker, sexier, simpler, flashier sport that's more focused on celebrity than the game? Color me shocked.
Curious:
When's the last time you've watched the NBA?

BS
basketball involves teamwork and a lot of changing strategy in real time, 2 things baseball (based on its structure) will always have issues with
people enjoy the strategy and style
i mean shite the big shifts in baseball are finally a switch in defensive strategy and a lot of fans flipped the frick out

You're giving common folk too much credit. The average sports fan would much rather listen to the moron talking heads on some ESPN Wednesday mid-morning program talk about if Lebron is the greatest basketball player of all time for the 154th time rather than listen to anything about baseball.

that's because they enjoy watching basketball more and baseball just isn't exciting. that statement wouldn't be true during the steroids scandal or bonds' HR chase, because then there was something for people to care about.
the NBA had a down period but is coming back in a big way, mainly with white people and young white people. basketball is the best blend of analytics and on-court excitement/strategy that we have in american sports.
the NBA only crushed MLB when it had jordan. trying to create a new jordan (and super-defensive games) almost killed the NBA. the NBA is cultivating fans who enjoy the game and analyzing the game. that generation is now young adults.
baseball's last major demo is the baby boomers, and that's mostly due to opportunity (baseball was the only game in town for them, and most importantly, it was around during summer when they were off school).

I agree with you 100% but they would just do the same thing with baseball if it was more popular. It's just the way that sports "news" is heading. Most people want to see loud dramatic personalities like Skip and Steven A to just scream their favorite controversial bullshite statements/opinions.

I think when it comes to the below 40 crowd baseball is pretty lame, no thug factor when compared to the NFL/NBA, young'uns can't relate, it's just too boring, not as much drug arrests, assault, murders, rape, etc. really not much to look at.

Did you watch the Finals at all? "Blacker?"

Haven't read the thread but I conclude no Yankees/Red Sox/Cardinals/Braves, then no care.

That's all well and good. The NBA has more viewers? Fine. As someone already pointed out it's not like the MLB is having to give away tickets to post season games or beg TV networks to put their games in primetime. I know it's the cool thing to do to shite on baseball and pretend that's the case, but unfortunately reality doesn't give that view a leg to stand on.

More so than the NFL? Lol.

Yes all those now-retiring baby boomers with all their disposable income are definitely not a demographic people care about. No need to worry about alienating them. The 22 y/o Dick's Sporting Goods cashier is a better target audience.

the NFL sucks for analytics b/c of how much the game relies on the team concept
it's way too advanced for the average joe to really get into the onfield strategy, too.

Exactly. And it attracts personalities who love to hear themselves talk, which is why as someone pointed out on page 1 I think the people who like baseball were too busy watching the game while NBA fans get off on arguing on a message board.

Way to prove you know jack shite about the NBA. Congrats.

Because baseball blows
ETA: Honestly though. If you can generate interest in college baseball, interest in the MLB would sky rocket.
Problem is, baseball is too slow, not as easily played/related to by most fans (you can grab a football/basketball and play with four people if you really wanted to...base ball you need a bat, balls, glove and an organized group of people)
Once the older generation passes on, baseball's popularity will continue to decline.

Yes where could they ever find a break in the constant action of a baseball game to post on a message board.

Go read the Spurs/Mavs thread tonight or basically any non-LeBron/MJ centric thread. Outside of some Rockets and Pelicans fans trolling each other there is a lot of very good discussion.

bro you can't expect the average fan to grasp the double switch and to know when you're supposed to shift the infield

baseball's strategy is pretty dogmatic and rigid. a lot of this has to do with the traditional defensive formation and the lack of teamwork
there is simply only so much that you can do defensively in baseball
obviously, offense is completely restrained due to the field and rules
take a basketball game. in 3 trips down the court your base offense/defense may not line up anywhere similar, and then within each possession you'll have a ton of movement (which is strategy) and then reactive movement/strategy
are baseball players highly skilled? yes
is hitting possibly the hardest thing to do in major sports? yes
it's not like baseball is without merit. but teamwork/strategy are major issues compared to a game like basketball (or football. FB = king)
