The entire premise of the NT is that, if you are a true believer, you aren't a normal functioning member of society in general. You stand apart from it, distinct from it and do not indulge in it's worldly norms.

In a way, it's tough to criticize the radical fundamentalists too much because they are the ones actually trying their damndest to be true biblical Christians.
