NO...I dont know why some people feel the need to pay an athlete for what they did in the past.
I work in sales and would get laughed at if I went to my boss during a bad sales year and said " hey 4 years ago I was the best in our field at my job title. I deserve to still get paid like that even if I suck now.

Going to be some dark, dark days once he retires. Y'all will end up realizing that, some day.

No one player is worth that much. He got paid on his past accomplishments which were substantial but it cripples a franchise.

I'm tired of listening to people defend Brees because he won a super bowl that great, terrific I loved it but it's 5 years ago now and more and more he is costing this team wins with ill timed ill advised interceptions. Many of which are returned for touchdowns. He continually gets a pass. Im not trolling I'm not being a Saints hater it's just a problem that is continually over looked and the only fall back is " super bowl ". Last I checked it took a complete 53 man roster and grest coach to win a super bowl. No he isn't worth 20 million, no player is. The team needs to get younger and address problems with position coaches and play calling. Brees won't play until he's 45. He wont make it to 40. The position needs to be addressed in this coming draft to prepare for the end of Drews contract.

You shouldn't. Brees is a poster boy for the NFLPA. It'll be a cold day in hell before he agrees to a pay cut.

Then he should be traded or cut. He's not worth the $26.4 million cap hit.

Restructuring does not mean a pay cut

You guarantee his contract for a few more years while maintaining his level of pay at around $20 million.

He gets a nice chunk as a bonus up front, benefiting him greatly.

He's absolutely going to restructure this year and extend for probably an extra 2 seasons.

He's easily worth that cap hit if needed over starting a rookie QB.

That isn't how it works though. Is Drew Brees worth $14 million or $11 million?

Because no on the team, traded, or cut, he's going to cost us $14 million in dead money. We would get a net $11 million in cap space, but then we'd have to pay another QB.

He had a 105 Passer Rating last year with only a 1.8% interception rate LAST YEAR

That was last year, not 2009. He gets a "pass" because he's been a great QB for us since 2006.

Are you kidding? Especially with the inflation of the cap and QB rates.

So Aaron Rodgers or Luck aren't worth $20 million? You would let them walk instead?

Okay, 20mil/yr salary right?

Would you rather:
Aaron Rodgers: 22.0mil - yes (Rodgers is an elite QB and younger than Brees. You take him > Brees all the time. He has no line, but produces big numbers in past years).

Matt Ryan: 20.75mil - no (younger, elite potential, but no line means he's useless as well)

Joe Flacco: 20.1mil - no, not even close

Peyton Manning: 19.2mil - yes (always will take Manning > 99.9% of QBs)

Colin Kaepernick: 19.0mil - not at 19.0mil no.

Jay Cutler: 18.1mil - no, he makes me bash my head with how awkward he is. one week he'll be elite, the next he's just off. That's with 2 top WRs and an above average TE/RB.

Tony Romo: 18.0mil - no (Brees with a line > Romo with a line; Romo without a line is every year prior to 2014)

Matthew Stafford: 17.76mil - no (Look at Stafford minus CJ. Its not really good numbers at all. He makes a lot of derp throws too)

Alex Smith: 17.0mil - hahaha no

Eli Manning: 16.25mil - ...no

Andy Dalton: 16.0mil - no

Philip Rivers: 15.3mil - yes, always thought he was underrated by everyone

that's the top 13 (not including Brees'). Rivers is going to be PAID when his contract ends in 2015.

Million dollar question lol. Me says nope

Yes, and for multiple reasons. I don't like that he's paid that much, but that's market value now and his past performances earned him that.

He's struggled at times and is still easily a top 10 and possibly top 5 QB each year on that contract.

He's an enigma right now. He plays very well and has dealt with some crappy line play, but some of his decision making at particular times in games has been inexplicable. That said, if he stops those mistakes he's the second best QB in the league right now easily.

Better question is, is the interior OL worth 16.32mil?

Jahri Evans: 8.1mil
Ben Grubbs: 7.2mil
Jon Goodwin: 1.02mil

Answer is: No.

Stats stats stats stats. Post them all you want. Whether you agree with what I said doesn't matter. Because you're probably one of the guys that immediately starts calling people retards and morons when you find agree with them.

I'm not a stat junky and I don't care about records or QB ratings. I know what Brees has done and I watch the games.

Just because the CBA and FA created this bloated pay structure does not mean a player is worth 20 million.

So to clarify I don't want him gone. I appreciate what he's done. Has he screwed up some playes, yes. Has he been great more often than not, yes.

I don't think the line is performing well and they are overpaid too.

There are s lot of things that need correcting. If those changes occur this season remains to be seen.

No I think he's been great since 2006. Things are bad right now for multiple reasons not just Brees.
I'm not certifiable and I'm not keeping facts out of it. Posting all his stats and records in unnecessary. You're taking what I said and using it as a spring board to say you're smart and I'm dumb.
If that helps you sleep at night fine. In my opinion no professional athlete is worth 20+ million a year regardless of accomplishments. Simple as that but I don't think Brees is done.

So then why did you say this?

You're agreeing that be has more to fall back on than just a Super Bowl 5 years ago?

I'm taking your words for what they are and trying to show you how unreasonable they are.

Your above comment above was absurd and says that all Brees has to fall back on is the Super Bowl 5 years ago.
