GAO Bombshell: HHS Cooked The Books To Expand Obamacare In Arkansas

quote:
News is so bad that Governor Beebe’s office is secretly trying to silence negative press about this ObamaCare experiment. And when that didn’t work, he prematurely leaked incomplete and misleading information. Now, the news for Arkansas – and indeed taxpayers everywhere – is getting even worse.
In August, the Government Accountability Office (GAO) released the findings of an internal audit conducted on Arkansas’ ObamaCare expansion.
Its conclusion?
The Obama administration violated its own budget neutrality protocols, at a cost of $778 million to federal taxpayers.
The Administration ignored the advice of its own actuaries who questioned the program’s costs. In addition, internal e-mails reveal that state officials knew the expansion would prove costly and unpredictable, but pushed forward anyway. Now Private Option costs are exploding and taxpayers everywhere are on the hook.
quote:
GAO found that the spending limit approved by the Obama administration for Arkansas’s expansion relied on “hypothetical costs.” These costs came from Arkansas officials who argued that, absent the Private Option waiver, the state would have needed to raise Medicaid reimbursement rates in order to get enough doctors willing to participate in the expansion. So the Obama administration let Arkansas include the “hypothetical cost” of those rate hikes – which were entirely hypothetical – in its estimates, including an imaginary 67 percent increase in reimbursement rates for primary care services.
These hypothetical cost projections were reviewed by the Obama administration’s own actuaries before the waiver was approved; they “questioned the reasonableness of the state’s assumptions.” But the actuaries’ concerns were ignored and HHS approved the ObamaCare expansion without even requesting additional data to support it.
quote:
The result?
Arkansas’ inflated three-year budget cap is roughly $778 million more than it would have been if HHS had followed its own budget neutrality protocols, according to the GAO. As one Arkansas lawmaker and hospital executive explained, taxpayers everywhere will spend nearly $1 billion on a failed ObamaCare experiment in order to make Republicans “feel better” about expanding ObamaCare.

Perhaps it's time for the country, (including the bootlickers) to just admit that this is the largest failure and fraud ever perpetrated on the American people.
From: "you can keep your insurance," to "premiums will be lowered by an as much as $2500." The whole damn thing is just a big lie.

There are people signing up for some coverage, and others being picked up by Medicaid.
You see headlines touting that shite weekly in the blogosphere. This alone indicates that it's "working".
There will be no accountability for all the promises required to get the bill passed, nor consideration of the huge costs incurred in exchange for this unimpressive increase in coverage rates.

i would say 'unbelievable', but that would be a lie too

Being a resident, I'm pissed that Beebe and the state legislature, both sides controlled by Reps, took almost 60 million dollars out of the state general fund to help the teacher's union keep their insurance rates from going up 50%. It still went up 10% even with the theft of the 60 million.
I'll be watching the statewide paper tomorrow to see if this article makes it to our paper.

2 of my wife's friends last week tried to sign up for obamacare. After 5 hrs on the phone they still haven't signed up.
When she started telling me everything (can't keep their doctors and costs are crazy) I laughed - said that's what you get for voting for Obama.
They are females living up north.

Governor Bebe is the next politican on the political suicide mission called obama care. If you support or voted for the largest insurance handout this country has ever seen then you deserve some abuse. The best thing to do now is to raise start raising taxes so Arkansas will remain red for generations.
ETA: There will be studies that ask how democrats lost the south once and foreall. You will see ObamaCare as the final death blow.

quote:I love it. I have absolutely no pity for people who voted for Obama and are struggling. It's poetic justice.

Not really. People will hardly notice. It's just a function of the politically disassociated electorate we have today.

Yeah, and the most ironic thing is they are from pretty wealthy families, highly educated, and their parents are pretty big conservatives.

I think it's more a sentiment of "Arkansas;dr". If it's not something that happens in a heavily Left-leaning state, it doesn't happen. If this were going on in Cali or New York, you can bet it would be news.

It hasn't been fully implemented yet!!

Hmmm....
Maybe this is why those evil GOP governors were correct in rejecting Medicaid expansion.

crooked politics in Arky,, now there's an eye opener..
govt cooking it's books to make itself look better and flat out lying about results has become de rigeur, like spending many millions in tax dollars to "advertise" for more govt.

"While good, affordable health care might seem to be a fanged threat to freedom on Fox News, it turns out [Obamacare is] working pretty well in the real world."
