I have a hard time believing that you knew where asylum was going after one episode.
you knew it was about the abuse of an asylum with a crazy doctor doing experiments and the journalist's investigation into the whole ordeal.
thats much more than what we got in an hour and a half of freak show

that's not the point. if you just loosely set up 29 different plots, you just confuse the audience and lose their interest. if you do a good job of setting up 2-3 things, then you leave the audience wanting more.
it's not about knowing how the entire season is going, it's about giving a shite about the characters and wanting to know their next steps. this premier did neither of those for me.

Not really. We know it's about a group of misfits that have banded together now in an us against the world mentality under the leadership of a manipulative amputee. And we know there is a murderous clown. It's about as much as we knew in asylum after the first episode.
I didn't think the first episode was great by any means, but I'll certainly tune in next week. I want to see how the clown plays into this and what's going to be done about the cop that was just slain. Not only are the twins still wanted for murder but now a detective isn't going to show up for work. This season has the potential to be one big blood bath with twists throughout.
The law is now going to be focused on the carnival, it's going to be a bloody game of cat and mouse and probably some bribery and black mail

The accent is Baltimore, think John Travolta in Hairspray. Also Frick that clown, supposedly we get to see his face next week.

Just finished, aside from the clown, was pretty shitty....

I just started watching Asylum and it already has aliens and a damn robot spider. Better than Coven my arse.

The bearded lady accent was driving me crazy cause I knew I had heard it somewhere. Then I realized it's the accent Johnny Depp uses for Willy Wonka in Charlie and the Chocolate Factory.

Yeah, if I had seen sweet tooth walking torwards me in blood I would have had a little more concerns than the one couple

So does Elsa have a twin sister? 53:43 mark of episode shows Lange in the audience watching the show
Did anyone else notice that?
I asked my friend and he didn't even remember that, so I went back and watched again...it clearly showed another "Elsa" is different clothes watching the other Elsa sing. ("Clown" scarf btw)

Probably the worst opening episode of all 4 seasons...maybe a tad better than Asylum.
I will keep watching to see how this plays out, but like most of the majority I was pretty underwhelmed by the first episode. Season previews had me very excited, but I'm a little disappointed out of the gate. I hope this season isn't like asylum...which I considered So-So.
I'm going to give it a chance though based upon my enjoyment of season 1 and 3. I can already tell I don't like Lange in this German character role..,She needs to be American.

Yea, wasn't a great episode, but as with every 1st episode with this show now, I can see a lot of good areas for it to go and be a good season. Will they do it? Who knows.
The clown was very well done. Having him still try and perform while making his kills was great.

Yea, I noticed that. Wasn't sure what to think. Could have something to do with the changing style she has throughout the episode. Sometimes when she is out in public, she is more feminine, and then sometimes she is wearing a suit with a tie. Interesting to say the least.

It was a flash forward of her watching it. No biggie. The same time the freaks were butchering the dead cop.

Clown was far and away the best aspect of the first episode...I'll keep watching for the sole purpose to see his backstory.
Most of the other stuff was blah...including what I expect to be the major overall story arc: "let's band together and kill anyone that messes with us"
I'll give it a chance, because this show has definitely entertained me in the past, and maybe I just had my expectations set too high based on the creepiness of the season previews.

I assumed as much, but she seemed to have completely different make up on with those dots everywhere. Just odd for her to look the way she did.

Yea, I went into this season with extremely low expectations
