Is this the weakest field of CFB teams we've seen in recent memory?

Don't get me wrong, yesterday was a very exciting day in CFB and the reason we love this sport so damn much. However, I can't hep but notice how weak the field is this year. I don't see one single dominant team, I see a lot of mediocrity and sloppy play. I can't remember the last year in CFB that was this bad. I've heard a lot that this could be another 07 type of season, but even that year's best teams (UGA, LSU, USC etc) would go in dry on any team this year IMO.

Looks like a lot of good teams to me.

Auburn is the only team that looks close to complete

Who cares! It's entertaining

...maybe there is just a lot more parity? Not weak, but even.

Mississippi State looks pretty damn good. Au vs MSU should be awesome next week

Weakest? No. A big shift in the power? Quite possibly.

There is more parity, lots of teams that can now compete. Maybe the scholarship limits are starting to level the field with more teams able to compete for titles. Some teams who were always mid-bottom of their conferences have invested in their programs and with the new rules are gaining ground. Hell, Baylor was always a doormat like Tulane but have put emphasis and money into the program and has become much stronger. They may not be a title contender but they are well above average in a short time.
It makes for more interesting Saturdays that's for sure.

I actually feel sorry for LSU.
They had to deal with 2 of the best teams in the country the past 3 weeks. I don't think LSU is horrible, but both Auburn and MSU are just that damn good.

I think you're seeing two things at work.
1) A lot of experienced QB's were replaced across the nation.
2) De-emphasis on Defense as it's easier and quicker to coach up a an offensive scheme to outscore your opponent than to recruit, build, coach, and prepare a lights out defense these days.

very good point. Even SEC teams are no longer playing great defense these days.

People are just bent out of shape because Alabama, Oregon, Ohio State, USC, Texas, Michigan, Florida, Miami, Oklahoma, Georgia, LSU etc. aren't going to play for the NC.
The public prefers hype and the traditional powerhouses being spoon-fed to them.

Don't ask a typical corndog - they're too busy with their pitchforks and torches wanting Hat's blood for getting beatdown by 2 of the best in the field.
