The Ocean,
Here are some pics of my steamer...
You can hold the nozzle just a half inch above the record and won't harm it--I promise!
I usually work the entire LP surface from the outer edge to the inner edge--I don't go in circles like the needle would ride, but outer to inner in sections, turning the record a quarter turn and then work on another section. It is easier to turn the record and keep the steamer in place--it is easy to topple the steamer--water doesn't come out, but it can be cumbersome at times.
Once you do a few, you will come up with your own geeky method.
Just use a damp square kitchen sponge to absorb the excess DISTILLED WATER off the record surface.
To dry, use something soft and lint free--like a cloth baby's diaper.
Just put a dish towel under the record and steam away!

Can I use my gf's steam cleaner? Similar to this?
Would be a game changer if so.

Sure--steam is steam!
But really--you can, as long as it has a nozzle that allows a more direct spray.

Currently spinning Leif Vollbekk - North Americana. First heard this guy when he was opening up for Gregory Alan Isakov and I was blown away. He's a superb musician and really put on an amazing show. I talked to him after the show and he couldn't have been nicer or more humble. His music falls under singer/songwriter/Americana and is perfect for a mellow night
Here's a link to his album

I am not a big Americana fan, but I will check it out...you never know. I will always give new stuff a spin.
I have tried numerous times to get into Jason Isbell to no avail--hell, my old frat brother is his drummer, so I gave it an extra effort, but alas--not for me. Same with Wilco.
On a side note--most of the albums you guys post pics of here with what you are currently listening to, I actually check them out online or on Rhapsody. I have discovered a bunch of new stuff!

How the hell can you not get into Isbell but I hear you, different strokes for different folks.
I really enjoy seeing everyone's pictures because like you said, turns me on to new stuff

On now...
Linda Ronstadt with the Nelson Riddle Orchestra--"'Round Midnight"...
This is actually a 3 LP box of which all 3 albums were released individually...
"What's New"...1983
"Lush Life"...1984
"Sentimental Reasons...1986
Linda Ronstadt teamed up with the master Nelson Riddle and cut 3 complete albums covering a plethora of Big Band and classic jazz standards.
If you want an idea of what these are about, check out the first one, "What's New". Linda has one of the most powerful voices I've ever heard, and an incredible range to boot. The music contained here is really some beautiful stuff. It can be easily found on almost all music services.

Up next and closing out tonight...
"Fare Thee Well--50 Years of the Grateful Dead"...7 DVD + 12 CD box from this past July 4th weekend at Soldier Field, Chicago.
Will listen to 7/3/15 set 1 tonight.
They really did a great job with this box--the recordings are excellent and the camera work is pretty darn good too--even if Phil can't sing worth a damn

Will need to pick up a couple of RCA cables. This might be a stupid question, but is there any noticeable difference with RCA cables? My plan was to swing by RadioShack and grab a few, but wanted to see if anyone had any info regarding these--will a $10 cable perform the same as a $35 cable?
For a table to phono stage, I always like a cable with good shielding, as it carries a very low voltage signal and any outside "noise" has a chance of interfering.
With that said, you probably won't get much of a difference between a $10 and a $30 cable. However, if you get near $80 or so, there are some cables that have better wire, better shielding, and better soldering at the barrel connectors. Check out The Cable Company and Blue Jean Cables.

Collecting some of my favorite vinyl but no phono setup yet due to lack of room at our current place...
Still, a huge thanks from an outsider looking to get into the game soon...will be asking for advice eventually

Listening to this right now on YouTube and I dig it. Seems like you and I have similar tastes in music.

Starting early tonight...
A top 10 of all time (IMHO) Dead show...
Shrine Exposition Hall, Los Angeles, CA, 11/10/67...
The boys were firing on all cylinders this night--this is one of the 30 complete shows from the "30 Trips Around The Sun" box that was released a few months ago.
The vinyl of this show, which I posted a few pages back, was released on 1/19/16. I am listening to it again tonight but on CD insteadt--it's that jammin'!

Nick Drake's debut album "Five Leaves Left"
The English poet/singer-songwriter achieved his guitar style through alternative tunings, which he loved to experiment with to accompany his dark and haunting melodies.
The title of the record is a reference to the old Rizla cigarette papers packet, which contained a printed note near the end saying "Only five leaves left".

Also thought he was Satan. Tons of mental issues, but he made beautifully dark music.
Been wanting to get some of his stuff on vinyl forever.
