Nick Drake's debut album "Five Leaves Left"

The English poet/singer-songwriter achieved his guitar style through alternative tunings, which he loved to experiment with to accompany his dark and haunting melodies.

The title of the record is a reference to the old Rizla cigarette papers packet, which contained a printed note near the end saying "Only five leaves left".

Great album. Might bust out my copy when I get home.

On deck...

Citizen Cope--"One Lovely Day"...Rainwater Recording Inc., 2012

I was in a record shop in NYC near NYU back in 2012 and asked the owner, and older fellow, to pick me out a couple LPs--something he liked--and this was one of them. Pretty good record.

Got the lights low, keepin' it mellow tonight with one of my favorite albums in any genre...

Bonnie Prince Billy "I See A Darkness"

May take a couple of listens to digest, but when it does, the haunting heartfelt passion will pierce your soul like not much else can. His voice, lyrics, and the album's atmosphere will absolutely suck you in. A beautiful masterpiece!

The great Johnny Cash covered and recorded the title track in 2000.

Alright man, your passionate description of that LP has caused me to look it up on Rhapsody just now

I will play it after Citizen Cope...

Booooooo on Rhapsody! I don't see anything from him except some stuff from the "True Detective" soundtrack--and Cash's cover.
I'll check YouTube...

He's not well known, he also puts out music under his real name, Will Oldham.
This one was a little out of his normal lane, but it's such a spooky gem.

Starting off a Wednesday evening...

Widespread Panic--"Space Wrangler", 2-180g LPs, Volcano Records...1988/2014

This is possibly one of the GOAT debut albums.

It was finally reissued on vinyl in 2014--after 26 years!

The original LP was pressed on Landslide Records, a tiny record company in Athens, GA, to the tune of something like 1500 copies, and was hard to come by--and if you did find one, it ran about $500.

Toto--"IV"...CBS Mastersound Half-Speed Mastered 180g virgin vinyl LP...1982. This is not a reissue.

These CBS Mastersound records are phenomenal. Below is the insert from the album explaining a bit about Half-Speed Mastering.

For those interested in the process...

I have a Bruce Springsteen-Born to Run CBS Mastersound Series, and it is probably the best sounding LP that I own.

Not in this pic Marco. I was experimenting a little and I noticed the bass and drums sound significantly different with the vibrapods verses without them. With the vibrapods, the bass is weaker sounding, even a little distant, not as tight. Maybe I'll play around with the placement of the vibrapods under the granite and see if that helps any.

Pull the loudspeakers another foot off the back wall when you listen--see if that tightens up the low end...
