Fire it up--take a pic and post it!

I'd say the Stones are a pretty good way to break the cherry of a new 'table!

Where are you located? I may have someone in our audio circle that is getting rid of a pair of speakers for cheap--like $100 cheap. They were around $500 new. I'll let you know soon.

Enjoy the ride!

Nice. Still waiting on mine to ship. Apparently Barnes and Noble is a retailer and can ship them within a week.

So much for going straight from the manufacturer.

been lurking and enjoying this thread for awhile now.

Questions: Has anyone ever heard of a SolaraSound sub (ASW100).
Also, I'm wondering if I can hook that up to a Harmon-Kardon 630 with a pair of Savard studio monitors (500's).

Thanks in advance

Fri evening spinning...

The London Souls "Here Come The Girls", pretty cool record. Has a retro feel to it, sort of dirty & bluesy, '60's-70's rock.

A little local flair for the Carnival season...

The Meters--"Anthology"...2 CD (43 songs) Rhino Records 1995

Folks, this is a very well done compilation that covers the Meter's entire span--the quality of the recordings is really top notch, and the booklet and liner notes is in true Rhino fashion--superb.
Pick this one up if you are even a remote funk or New Orleans R&B fan...

river_man,

I have often seen the London Souls records while perusing online record stores, but never knew anything about them or what type of stuff they played. Thanks for the pic and brief description--for some reason I thought they were a '90's alternative pop band.

I'll check them out now...sounds interesting.

I believe SolaraSound was a short lived audio company that was a shoot off of Elite Screens Company. They wanted to capture the audio end of their customers that were buying high end home theater screens, but it failed. They often times offered the subs or their tower or center channel speakers as freebies when customers upgraded to a larger or more expensive drop down screen from them. I don't believe they have been made for a few years now.

Now, as to how it sounds, I can't answer that as I have never heard one. If you like it, that is all that matters.

As far as hooking it up with your Savard and HK receiver, well I am sure you can.

Here is how...

If the sub is not powered or has speaker wire taps, run the Savard speakers out of the regular speaker tap (speaker 1). Then run the sub off of the other tap (speaker 2).

What I need to know, though, is if the sub is powered. If it is, then this won't work as the signal will already be amplified coming off speaker 2 tap. Does the sub have left/right speaker inputs?--meaning that you can bypass the amp in the sub and drive the subwoofer directly off the receiver's power instead of its own power?

Some subs give that option--you will see a single RCA input (to use the sub's internal amp), as well as a left +\- and a right +\- speaker tap (if you are using another power source, such as the amp inside the receiver).

Can you post a pic of the backside of the sub where the connections are made? I can't find pics of it online--it is a scarce piece. I did however find all kinds of info on your HK receiver though.

If the sub only has a single RCA input, all hope is not lost. You would need to run the sub through the tape loop (tape monitor out), and use an RCA Y-splitter to combine the left and right RCA outputs into a single line that carries both channels and then into the sub. You would then just depress the Tape Monitor button on the receiver when you wanted the sub on.

Here is what you would need...

The right side cable (red barrels) hooks to the tape monitor out on the receiver.
The other end goes into the Y-splitter (you need female on both ends--or if you see in my pic, I used gold barrel adapters on the 2 male ends of the Y adapter, thus turning it from a male to a female plug--either way works).
The single cable to the sub (on the left-black barrel with blue ring) plugs into the other end of the Y-splitter.

This should work if you are using a powered sub.

The Y-splitter shown is made by Audioquest and is around $15, and the interconnect shown on the right (red barrels) is also Audioquest and runs about $50, but you can use any old RCA cable for that.

You should use a decent shielded cable for the single RCA cable that leads from the Y-splitter to the sub, as it is common for a cheap cable to pick up hum from the electrical grid (60 Hz is the electrical pulse, and much of deep bass is also at 60Hz--so a sub with a cheap cable will sometimes amplify the electrical pulse!). The one in the pic above (blue ring around the barrel) is made by Transparent Audio--it is not too expensive and does a good job with shielding.

OR, AFTER I LOOKED AT THE BACK OF YOUR RECEIVER MORE CLOSELY...it looks like you have a pre-out, which is awesome! You just have to remove the metal U-jumper that is in the RCA plug on the back of the HK in the pre-out jack...

Instead of running through the tape monitor loop, just run that wire connection in the picture out of the Pre-out of the HK receiver and into the sub--that should do it!

Hit me with any questions...hope this helps...

Half Moon Run "Sun Leads Me On".

Picked this up bc I really dug their debut album "Dark Eyes". This new one is a little different, but not in a bad way. Really like these guys' sound. Perfect to kick back to with your fav beverage.

Lincoln Durham "The Shovel vs The Howling Bones" on bone white vinyl. Love this cat and this record is phenomenal. Puts on a hell of a live show also. If you don't know him, you should.

Thanks for the response Marco-It is in fact powered and have since then swapped out my AV 5.1's sub in the living room with this sub and WOW! It's staying there.

Sorry if I put you through unnecessary research.

Just acquired a Gerrard turntable and as soon as I set up shop, I will post back.

Thanks again
