Nice haul. I haven't been to Euclid in a long time...I really should try to make it there soon.

Now spinning (ignore my ugly wires). Picked this up yesterday from Euclid. It's a great collection of songs that Toussaint either wrote, produced or performed. I highly recommend it, one can never have enough Toussaint

They've really built something over there. It's become my Sunday ritual to walk off the the fog of Saturday night at Crescent Park and hit Euclid until I exceed my weekly record budget. They've helped me find a lot of the stuff I want and introduced me to some records that are now among my favorites. I realize this sounds a bit overboard but I think of it in the same category as the WWII Museum as one of the things that's truly great here, as opposed to "great for New Orleans."

Up next is Future Islands - Singles, released in 2014. Has one of my favorite songs on it, "seasons (waiting on you)". I really enjoyed this album when it came out but haven't listened to it in forever. There's something haunting about Samuel Herrings voice, but I love the passion and vulnerability that he sings with.

It is. I'm digging it. I'm not into a lot of his stuff; my favorite was Sleeper before this. He takes some pretty unusual turns on the new one. Unusual in a good way. Kind of a noisier update on 70s glam. It's hard for me to describe this music, unfortunately

What's the best way to clean a record without dropping a ton of $? I just ordered some old records from amazon and it sounds like I'm popping popcorn for the entire apartment complex. Used the record brush from amazon and that helped a tad.

I just use this but you probably need a machine for deep cleaning. It seems the only effective ones are pretty expensive. I will have to bite the bullet eventually. Marco could probably recommend some good options for you.

I use the spin clean . Works well enough but for the price I kind of wish I would have just bought the record doctor for 200 since I don't plan on stopping this hobby anytime soon.

I'm going to give this method a shot.

Looks funky, but everything I have read has said it works really well.

Interesting. I don't know if I'm bold enough to try that, maybe on some of my really shitty records. I would be concerned about long term damage caused to the stylus from any residual glue, but I don't know if that concern is well founded or not.

I just use a kitchen sponge with warm water and a tiny drop of soap. Then rinse with warm water. Works like a charm. Costs nothing

DONT DO THAT!!

If you leave even a tiny bit of glue in a single groove and your stylus hits it after it is hard and dry, you stand a good chance of pulling the cantilever out of the cartridge.

If it sounds like popcorn, the record is probably bad, and no amount of cleaning will fix that.

Best thing to get really deep dirt is a steam cleaner from Walgreen's--about $40-$50. You can steam the hell out of a record--you won't hurt it. Just use a damp sponge to clean the excess DISTILLED water off when done steam cleaning.

Marco -

Any special technique for the steamer? I've got a handheld steamer and some distilled water and I'm curious to try it on some of my really bad records. Any issues with damaging the center label? After you steam it, you scrub with a sponge, then wipe dry with towels/air dry?

Just clean them in the dishwasher!

Just kidding. I'm not sure how effective it is. It may actually work, but the heat could warp the records, no?

Like a hand held steamer you use for ties? Is that how you clean your records?

UTurn Orbit plus should arrive sometime this week. Probably going to order this Cambridge Audio preamp when I get home today

Will need to pick up a couple of RCA cables. This might be a stupid question, but is there any noticeable difference with RCA cables? My plan was to swing by RadioShack and grab a few, but wanted to see if anyone had any info regarding these--will a $10 cable perform the same as a $35 cable?
