re: Klinsmann hasn't spoken to Donovan about his sendoff match... on the 10th.

Regarding the actual game, how much run do you think JK gives LD?
I'm thinking the first 25 minutes or so before subbing him off. 1) That's how these things usually work 2) Klinsi doesn't want to run the risk of Donovan out-performing some of his guys that are established in the pool.
It would be hilarious if Donovan comes off for Green, Davis or Wondo, though, all things considered.

I've seen maybe a handful of Wondo games in USMNT and dozens for San Jose. I'll defer.

He's an entirely different player for club and country. With Wondo, it always felt like the national team was too big of a stage for him.
Similar to Torres and Kljestan - plenty talented enough, just didn't have "it" at the international level.

no doubt. His MLS form alone this year has convinced me.
Eh, he wasn't doing much before the WC, to be fair.
Unless you are saying that his form shows that he still could have done something, in which case I agree with you.

The worst kept secret in sports, these two do not like each other

A poor start to one MLS season should not wipe out a player of his caliber. A month of poor form does not wipe out 12 years.

I am not sure when Grant Wahl actually conducted his interview with Donovan (the article was posted on 10/2).
The above tweet was followed by this one:

@AlexiLalas (10/8/14, 9:48 AM): A source @USsoccer tells me that @J_Klinsmann's son emailed Landon Donovan an apology right after the #USMNT tweet incident in May
Not posting this with any agenda. Do with it what you will.

There's more now:

Probably went to spam box.

Oh, what a tangled web we weave.

I really didn't expect to still be so angry at Klinsmann.
As others have said, if leaving Donovan at home was a personal decision, then he's an a-hole for putting his hurt feelings above the well-being of our team.
If it was a tactical decision, then I have lost all faith in him as the head of our program because a fricking 9 year old would have known that Donovan makes us better.
It was such a shitty situation that I still can't believe how poorly it was handled. All I can hope now is that he stays the frick out of Donovan's curtain call this Friday as much as possible.

Damn, if that's true then it makes Landon look very petty.
frick, I hate how there is this cloud of controversy surrounding this game when it should just be a celebration for the best player our country has ever produced.

I know, which was why I wasn't among the Klinsmann haters. I disagreed but understood.

We agree then.

To be fair, I think it will be a celebration and there won't be much of a cloud, in the end.

Yeah. Somebody in this situation is full of shite. I think I know who that is, but I'm certainly not sure.
I hope somebody writes a book about this one day.

It's becoming obvious that both are being passive aggressive little bitches, which is unfortunate because it's a marquee player and the head coach.
A book or a 30 for 30 needs to be made.

JK doesn't strike me as passive aggressive. Landon does. Just my two pennies.

Ever since Donovan came back into the fold after his Cambodia adventure, JK refused to concede anything to him or say anything overly positive about him even when he was, by far, the best player in the Gold Cup and in the WCQ's against Costa Rica and Mexico.

Agreed. Jurgen strikes me as a sociopathic type A achiever (step on or use anyone for their own benefit without a thought of the impact.) You see them from time to time in the corporate world and hearing Jurgen talk in interviews and in the ESPN series before the WC, he came across just like every other one of them I've encountered.
They've pumped themselves full of so much shite about how amazing and impressive they are that it literally oozes out of every word and action.
Posted on 10/9/14 at 8:07 am to Sheep
Wow. Not sure I'm quite ready to diagnose JK as a sociopath just yet.
