I don't know anything about fine china but I can vouch for the quality of Royal Doulton products. I have stoneware plates, saucers, cups, etc. that are approaching 40 years old. These items are used daily - they go in the dishwasher, microwave, freezer and oven. Top notch product.

You might want to find out what she likes. I'm a Fiesta type but most would not consider it fine china. We like the colors and it's just fine with us. I had fine china service for eight with all accessories. Used it Thanksgivings and Christmas. When we moved I gave it away. I was not wrapping all those pieces.

Waterford kilbarry platinum is what we have - pretty timeless IMO - can be used in any setting that calls for china and really isn't that expensive compared to some

Shop at Replacements, Ltd. - check their website. Completed my late mother's pattern there, even though the pattern was discontinued. Haviland china, beautiful timeless pattern and shape.

Looks like you'll be shopping at Target or Walmart.

Trust me. She must have the last word on the pattern you buy. Worst mistake you can make is to select a pattern for her.
