SMU "intrigued" by the idea of hiring Mack Brown

SMU is currently in the market for a head coach after June Jones stepped down from the position earlier this month, and according to one report, Jones' replacement could be another coach from Texas who recently walked away.

And that coach is Mack Brown.

FoxSports.com's Bruce Feldman reports that "well-connected SMU brass are intrigued by Brown and think he might be tempted by the chance to coach again."

Brown is currently working as an analyst for ESPN, but there's no telling whether or not he'd have legitimate interest in the job -- if offered. Plenty of coaches transition from the sideline to the studio and find life on television to be a lot better, as there are far less demands on your time.

If Brown did want to return, though, he'd be a good hire for SMU. He's obviously familiar with the state of Texas and recruiting there, but he'd also bring a sort of legitimacy to the SMU program that it just hasn't had in a long time.
