I have done my research, taken tours of several private/tuition based schools, and even used the TD search function. I am looking for feedback from posters with first hand knowledge of the Lab school. I am strongly considering trying to get my 2 daughters in for next school year. They will be Kindergarten and 2nd grade.

The only thing I know is that it's hard to get in.

What's tuition like?

Unless you are connected it ain't happening. You MUST know someone with alot of power to get in.

From what I know, its extremely hard to get into LSU Lab. Unless you run a 4.2 in the 40.......but thats a whole another subject.

Don't get your hopes up, there's a long waiting list for that school. Are you an alumni? are you a deep pocketed alumni donor? That helps.

I went to U-high. My mother, aunt and uncle went to U-hight back in the '50s. That used to be all you needed to get in plus the connections (governor, LSU coach, politician offspring). Now it is register your kid when you think of conceiving, you may have a chance, and if your child is athletically gifted.

Here is an actual non OT response to the OT.

It is one of the finest schools you could hope for in the area. Which is why all of the posts a over ref getting in are true. Give it a shot but don't count on it.

Its a good school with excellent teachers, there is something for everyone , not just football and basketball, descent demographic representation if that matters at all, been there 12 years with 2...that being said I also believe the school for performing arts on Acadian and mckinley middle and Baton Rouge high are also an excellent route and you will drive a nicer car.

if you have done your research you would know you live in the best school district in the state for Free assuming of course you live in Zachary , Zachary is #1 and has been for some time.

Great school, expensive, and requires serious connections to get in.

I know of people who have been donating since they got married and still haven't even started trying to have children. If I still lived in BR, that would be my plan of action.

Catholic High would be cool to go to. There is the gifted route ( dont do it) with Glasgow or mckinley or woodlawn. or magnet to BRMHS . I graduated from BRMHS. It sucked dick...

We thought about it and had the connections, but it was not a fit for us. The price is nice for sure, but I did not like what the school looked like when I visited. It is all about the sports and the academics are not what they used to be when my dad and cousins went there - their commentary, not mine. They tried to recruit a fiends son to play sports and told him he had to take remedial courses when he enrolled in order to get in - kids parents said no way as he is a great student and wants to go to a great college.

UHigh is a great school. Teachers are very well paid and they basically get their pick of the litter. I think the application deadline is Oct 8th. I have zero connections and 2 of mine got into Lab School, but they do hold the diversity card by being dual citizens and raised bilingual. You need to be able to show that your kids bring something to the table in terms of diversity and I'm sure connections wouldn't hurt.
