$106 to concert, $443 home

quote:

After the concert, she used Uber to get to a Parker bar near Lincoln and I-25. That 19-mile ride cost a bit more than her first ride.

"Uber charged us $443," said Reed. "I feel that we should just pay what we paid on the way down there, which was $106."

According to Reed's emailed receipt, she used Uber during "surge pricing." Uber's prices are increased during periods of low supply and high demand.

"I would never have accepted a ride had I known that," said Reed.

To be fair, they make you manually enter your total multiplier. I did it in Houston. I accepted 9Xs but still didn't get accepted. Thank. God.

Ahhhh, that's the greatness of this. She had to accept the ride based on the quoted surge pricing.
Too bad, too sad!
Find another shitty way to bash Uber.

Reading comprehension is SO overrated...

It tells you about surge pricing before you book the Uber (same reason I didn't Uber home after the Wisconsin game)

...I'm gonna go on a limb that the multiplier was 4.0x....

They were charged $106 for the 19 mile ride there and then called Uber again for the ride home?

Does uber not tell you up front the price? I feel like it says how much it will cost per mile and minute. .. seems like she just didn't look and might be bad at math.

Never used uber... could be completely wrong

So it's Uber fault she didn't see the LARGE NOTICE of surge pricing prior to requesting the ride?

Is it Uber's fault that she didn't use the "how much will my ride cost" estimate that is one click away prior from requesting Uber?

Absolutely full of shite, the redundancy of confirming you understand there is surge pricing is almost mind numbing...when you first open up the app and drop a pin at the bottom of the screen it alerts you there is surge pricing, when you actually click on "request ride here" a message pops up giving you a few options, one is "I understand there is X.XX surge pricing and I agree to continue" the other two basically allow you to cancel...once you click on accept surge pricing another screen pops up letting you know the itemized rates with the surge pricing and you have to agree to continue again...the next screen you have to actually type in the surge amount to confirm you're not on the brink of passing out from being too drunk

These stories are such bullshite.

you have to go through like 5 layers of idiot proofing to even get an Uber during surge pricing

You start a thread thinking you're going to bash Uber, people call the woman out in the article for what she is, an idiot, the thread isn't going how you thought it would so now you resort to bashing everybody

While I fricking hate surge pricing, Uber is pretty up front about it. Use your noodle woman.

if you have to go 19 miles you are better off finding a DD

Uber still better than cab. What America needs is for the cops to drive the drunks home like they do here in the Caribbean now that is protecting and serving.

I can't believe she went to the news with this.

All she did was expose her own incompetence.

Would've been cheaper to just stay in the kitchen.

But really, Uber tells you when there's surge pricing and you have to ok the multiplier amount. I've only used it a few times, it's pretty common sense.

$337 is the price you pay for being dumb
