if you have to go 19 miles you are better off finding a DD

Uber still better than cab. What America needs is for the cops to drive the drunks home like they do here in the Caribbean now that is protecting and serving.

I can't believe she went to the news with this.

All she did was expose her own incompetence.

Would've been cheaper to just stay in the kitchen.

But really, Uber tells you when there's surge pricing and you have to ok the multiplier amount. I've only used it a few times, it's pretty common sense.

$337 is the price you pay for being dumb

The lack of knowledge of basic economic theory, the freedom of choice, and personal responsibility in some of the posts in this thread is scary.

If this isn't price gouging, neither is $4 gas after a hurricane

You're right, because it isn't.

if not, it seems like you're paying about the same or possibly WAY more than a taxi and padding uber's CEO's pockets.

It's a little less I have found without surge pricing. With surge pricing it's a little more, but if the surge is too high I'll just take the extra time to find a cab.

It's just nice that it's basically the price of a cab, the drivers are more pleasant, and I don't have to pull out cash or card to pay in the cab, it's already paid before. Pretty convenient.

I haven't used it in BR, but I have dealt with yellowcab in BR when I lived there, and it was quite possibly the worst transportation I've ever had to deal with. You could never really count on it as a ride unless you had a cabbie's number and knew they were working that night, and even then it'd take them forever. I don't really get the Uber hate unless you're involved in the taxi business.

Supply and demand.

If there's a 7x surge multiplier fee and you don't want to pay it, there are regular old cabs out there. But I've definitely had cab drivers overcharge me or take cash only/flat rates when it's really busy as well. Not sure why nobody complains about that.

So what's the benefit of Uber?

It's weird man.

You aren't forced to use it.
You aren't forced to pay the rate if you don't want to.
You have the freedom to choose another option aka a cab or friend or bus etc.
You read the rates and if you're literate, it's easy to understand

Yet it's Uber's fault? I'd love to know how many "conservative/Republican/small government/whatever" had a problem with this? Because I have news for them

You are correct. There is no reason to use Uber, especially not in a great cab town like Baton Rouge or New Orleans.
Now go back to your cave. Probably for the best for you because I bet you aren't to good on a smart phone and would end up paying $443 for an Uber ride.

I need to get in on this....provide cheap rides to an area without public transit, then gouge the shite out of them on the ride back when they have few, if any other options.

The trick is not letting them know about the gouging until they've already let you take them up shite creek.

Hell, I'd drive them 19 miles for only $399!!!

This sounds like an old person problem. Young people know how Uber works.

I don't even know what it is. I dont live in a city and if I do pay for a ride, it's usually not in a splooge covered crown Vic. What's the point of Uber?

Google and read up on it bubba. We will not do your homework for you.

Hint, it's a service that most normal cities have had for a while that is kicking the shite out of traditional cab companies because they aren't worth a damn.

Sounds shitty to me that the price could go up 400% in a matter of hours.

Still not gouging but it's pretty ridiculous
