Yeah it seems like one could make some $$$ in the aquarium trade since they are in our waters. Hook up with a local fish store and you could probably get $40+ per fish for specimens that size. Hell they would probably retail for $80

Awesome post and pics. How hard/easy are those things to clean?
My bad. I didn't read.

They're just hard to mess with because of all of the spines. Clean easily if not for that

Mike Reed (may he RIP) had posted a video on Youtube where he was sticking and picking some lionfish off of a rig. Awesome go-pro footage!

I believe they retail for a lot more than that. It's all based on size. If you had one that was 12+ inches long I'm sure they would fetch 150.

Ha, looks like you could have had an ice chest full of gold sitting there!

Yeah, they are high dollar salt water tank fish.
You need to rig a clear 12 inch diameter or so tube to slide over them and plug the ends. Then have big ice chest with bubblers or aerators up on the boat to get them in. You would need you aquarium connection to meet you at the dock so they could get the fish to proper care asap.
This is totally doable. I've watched videos about how they harvest wild fish like that.

Problem is aquarium people are the reason these Lionfish have taken over....

Damn that's bad news. Thanks for thinning the pop though.

I had one of these in an aquarium several years ago and they are one cool arse fish. He would sleep upside down by the heater and ambush the feeder fish(damsels) I put in there for his food. Be careful tho as it will destroy your live rock/coral if you have some and eat anything that is smaller than he is.
ETA: At a party one night some jack arse stuck his hand in the tank trying to get the puffer fish I had to blow up and the loin fish got him with two spines. Dude ended up in the hospital.
