the two worst I've seen since this bullshite started in 2009 was roman harpers palm went over eli's head as he was trying to sack him, the palm slid along top of the helmet, Darren sharper pick 6...wiped out of the books

the other one was in 2011 at Carolina, cam gets hit as he is throwing, the ball came out like you would expect it to and they still called roughing the passer

The worst I saw was in maybe 07 or 08. Saints @ Steelers. Guy "hit" Drew low. Only it wasn't a hit. He kind of slid down Drew's leg and pulled his sock down. Roughing the passer - low hit. After Drew pulled his sock up he had this look "Really? Ok, I guess"

No. It wasn't.

That will be called 100% of the time.

While I, along with many others, don't always agree with how closely the guard QBs, it was an illegal hit. You simply cannot, ever, for any reason, suplex the QB. You just can't. LINK

This! And the whistle hadn't blown dead yet. So what do you want Cap'n to do? Just let go? Had the roles been reversed, you guys would be saying the same thing I am. I don't give a crap what any of you say, you would...

Pretend Kenny Vacarro does the exact same thing to Matt Ryan next time they play.....

I've seen QBs suplexed or just thrown to ground hard. Flag gets thrown EVERY SINGLE TIME

Holy fricking shite people....

IT HAS NOTHING TO DO WITH BEING A QB.

You cant invert a player and slam him into the ground. This isnt the WWE where both people involved have safety in mind and are working together. Dudes would get paralyzed if this was legal. Quit spewing inaccuracies...

Your name is Captain Motherland!! And then you can't even say your last name correctly you mumble it. You should be suspended 3 games for that

It is definitely a penalty. But at the same time, I don't know what else the defender was suppose to do with Drew Brees still trying to move, and the refs not blowing the whistle.

That's what I'm saying. It IS a penalty in today's NFL, even though I don't agree with it. Look at the gif you posted, you clearly see Drew still trying to move forward. If anything, that angle shows Munnerlyn throwing him sidewards but Drew goes over top with the other MN defender there and gets slammed. It wasn't intentional, but it is a flag.

Drew also should've been flagged right after though.

@UnderhillAdv: Also disagree with the Vikings claim that Brees was trying to fight free, so it was necessary. Brees was done as soon as they got there.

I wonder what Drew and Munnerlyn were talking about after the game

One of the local reporters touched on it, but basically Munnerlyn was letting him know that it was him who slammed him (because Brees went after the other guy), and that he wasn't trying to make a dirty play, or injure Brees.

It's a dangerous play, of course it's a flag.

As for the truly borderline cases, remember that Brees used to NEVER get those kind of calls, ever. I remember the first time he got one, after the big contract. There was a sack or a busted play, Brees jumps up off the ground, makes the wrist throwing motion, out comes the ref's flag, tossed onto the ground LATE....a HUGE roar of approval went up in the Dome. It was awesome.

This is the way the game is, these big-time QBs do have influence. This is why it's so good to have one.

I also remember one time in an Indy game years ago (non-Saints), where Peyton Manning is lining up, calling an audible...he goes over to the ref, points at the clock, and makes them put more time back on the 45 second clock for him. Everything stops, the Colts are sitting there checking out the defense, the refs huddle up, and then it's suddenly announced "please put blah blah blah back on the play clock." Peyton could also argue and get them to pick flags back up off the ground sometimes, to help the team, too. That's why it's good to be the king.

The truth is he didn't have to slam Brees to the ground. Brees was sacked and not going anywhere. Hell, probably wait a second and the refs would be blowing the play dead.

Yes. I'm sure he had time to process this much thought into how to bring Brees to the ground. What if he holds Brees up waiting for the whistle which is late, while in the meantime Brees gets away? Brees wasn't trying to give up on the play, why should the DB have to?

Hell, in the position Brees was in I was more worried that Brees would get his legs caught under the defender and bent back in a bad position. If that happens, we might be talking about something worse than a suplex.

All of you who think Brees is "trying to make a move" or "trying to move" are insane. Have you EVER seen Brees try to get out of a sack when he's wrapped up like that? No, never. Because he's gonna turn it over if he tries. He's securing the ball if you watch it.

He's not as athletic as some of those QBs like Luck, Rodgers, Newton, Kaep, Wilson, etc. that can break out of that and is gonna run it for who knows how much.

All he had to do was pull him sideways or just hold him there since there were 2 defenders already and forward progress was stopped. That goes for any QB in the league, they don't need to be german suplexed to be taken down.
