Quit pouting, you could be a Phanatic with little farm..and no hope to contend for next four years.

For anyone interested in the contract numbers, we signed him for $4.25 mill this year, with a $250,000 signing bonus. $3.5 mill next year, and a team option 3rd year for $3 mill with a $250,000 buyout.

1. Kimbrel's arm won't last 10 years.

2. Kimbrel is worth more now on market than he ever will be.

So can anyone tell me what triggered this "rebuild"?

Is it really just the Liberty Media not wanting to spend money, so the only way we will ever win another World Series is by lucking into it with super young players, like the Marlins?

ETA: I see where people want to trade Kimbrel, and honestly, I understand the reasoning. However, at what point do you look at someone other than Freeman and say we really shouldn't trade this guy, he's a face of the Franchise.

Maybe they could just re-sign Mike Hampton and JD Drew while they're at it, but seriously, Schuerholz never seemed to screw up their roster this badly. Should the barves just stick with the home grown talent for a while?

Pretty much that and the shitty TV contract that they inherited (why the Braves allowed Time Warner to do that still boggles the mind). LM only gives a frick about squeezing as much revenue out of the franchise as possible (which is why we're about to dump a barely 20-year-old stadium for a glorified shopping mall that happens to have a ballpark attached to it).

Braves and TW... hmmm what do those two things have in common? I wonder? something about a Montana grill comes to mind...

you're not, but your team is, and it's not their stadium, it's the city of Lanta's, which anybody who knows the first thing about that snake pit knows why the Braves need out of that deal.

Ted was gone from the Braves years before TW sold the team.

The Braves wanted the City of Atlanta to fork over $200 million dollars which they didn't have. Cobb County I guess had different priorities.

yea so that's not why TW had the team to sell?

The Braves wanted the stadium to be kept up to top pro standards, and we know the city oh lanta is more interested in lining their own pockets.

Pretty dam simple,

I thought you were implying that Ted was still at Turner Broadcasting/TW at the time of the sale to LM.

That was not the situation here. The Braves wanted total control of the land around the stadium (for free), the ability to bid on their own request for proposal (which is against Georgia law) and wanted the city to give them $200 million (which they couldn't have done without taking from the rest of the city's general fund). It doesn't absolve the city of Atlanta from any blame (they could've done a better job banning gypsy parking lots and eased zoning in the neighborhood), but this wasn't a corruption issue.

Payroll already at $90M for 2017 with Gattis, Miller and Wood arb numbers not even accounted for.

We will be paying B.J. Upton, Nick Markakis, Craig Kimbrel and Chris Johnson a combined $50.3 million that year.

Did you see the MLB.com article saying we only have $12 mill before Pierzynski? I thought we had more like $17 like you have in yours.

Mine is based on their OD payroll last year. Bowman seems to think they have allocated about $108.5 rather than $111.5 this year. That would give them about $15M for another starter and primary pinch hitter.
