USC got the AP and FWAA. LSU got the Coaches and NFF. Split title.

USC was number 1 in all human bowls and got screwed by a Syracuse game. They didn't play Syracuse but an opponent of an opponent did.

how was the bcs any different than the current college playoff?
current college playoff is a semifinal format
bcs was a final format
current college playoff has a committee decide
bcs had a fixed system that used rankings, computers and quality wins
