I visited Denver and stayed at a place in Lakewood for about a week. Really nice cheap area only 15 minutes to downtown Denver. They were getting a 3 bedroom w/ a cottage/garden in the back for 1400 a month. Renting out the cottage in the back for pot tourism and living almsot rent free.

In the actual city of Denver, rents are high and occupancy is extremely high. If you're willing to live a little bit outside of Central Denver, then rents start to come down. I own a condo in Aurora, 2 BR/2 BA, 1700 sq ft., and I rent it out for $1200/month, which is competitive for that part of town.

I will say that when it is up for rent, I have a line of people waiting to see it. It's near the Light Rail line, so it's an easy commute into downtown and is therefore fairly desirable.

Some of the younger people who work in my office live in Englewood. It's just south of downtown and used to be kinda methy, but it's been taken over by young newcomers over the past few years and has become much better.

I graduated from LSU in '95 and came out here to stay with a friend and check it out and never went back. In addition to what others have said, I'll add that day-to-day life here is much easier than it is in the south.

The winter takes some getting used to, but it'll snow a bunch, then the sun comes out and it melts within a couple of days usually.

As far as traffic, I live eight miles from the city center (where I work) and bike commute every day through a "bad" part of town. I've never had any problems. Most people in my office take the Light rail or the bus. (Public transportation doesn't carry the same stigma here that it has in some parts of the country.)

I still go back to see family and get my LSU football and Jazzfest time in Louisiana, but otherwise, I'll probably stay here forever. Moving here was the best decision I ever made.

Thats awesome man... glad it worked out for you. Did you just decide to stay with someone out in CO while you were searching for a job? Or did you already have one lined up before you moved out there?

False. it was the N/NE counties where a lot of the o&g activities are taking place. Along the front range, FoCo to Denver have a lot of liberal presence. It's why the rest of the state hates the liberal government in Denver.

Got a friend who smokes a lot who moved there. Smokes, enjoys the outdoors, and got several job offers right away

I had a job lined up that fell through the week I got here. Very discouraging. I spent the first two weeks going to bars, Rockies games, and casinos and ended up blowing all of my savings. I had to sell off pretty much everything I'd brought with me and was barely scraping by, but kept job hunting.

I very randomly ran into a buddy from LSU at a Rockies game who got me an interview with his company. I lied my way through it, got the job, and everything sorta worked itself out from there.

I certainly considered giving up and going home on several occasions that first year, especially when winter came, but I'm glad I stuck it out.

There was a pretty big group of LSU people here for a few years ('95-2000) but a lot of them ended up going home or moving on. Out of probably 25-30 of us, about 8-10 remain here and we all still love it and still get together quite a bit.

Edit: When I say 25-30 of us, I mean people who graduated around '95 and were friends. There are LSU people all over the place now, mainly due to the resurgence of the oil and gas business. I see LSU shirts all over downtown on Fridays before games.

This cannot be more true. Public transportation to go to/from work and go out at night is a part of normal every day life. Saying something like, "I'll catch the train and meet you guys downtown in about 30" is almost involuntary. Since there's light rail stop at Sports Authority Field, Pepsi Center, and Union Station (a couple blocks from Coors Field), train cars are packed going to/from games.

Dammit. I want to move there. I know a guy who lived in Denver but his mom got sick so he came back to Mississippi. He said their truck stayed in the garage because they never HAD to use it. He said he would either ride his bike or use public transportation.

Yeah those gun control laws they forced on the state are really something aren't they?

Absolutely, the big 3 have offices here. All the o&g companies have financial analyst/manager positions at their offices here. As well as companies in other industries I'm sure.

Bradsby Group is the top recruiting firm in the city.

If you're talking financial services, Fidelity just opened a giant call center in Greenwood Village (South of Denver) and Schwab is moving all of their Phoenix operations here. TIAA-Cref has a giant service center downtown as well.

I work on 17th Street ("Wall Street of the West") and there's always somebody hiring. It's a sector that has always had a strong presence here.

So yes, depending on what you're looking for.

The only downside really is that most financial services here are service-based so the money isn't stratospheric, but the paychecks are steady.

CO seems to be the type of conservatism that minds its own business and leaves people alone and doesn't welcome government intrusion.

That has went for Obama 2 straight elections, has 2 democrat senators, a democrat governor, and 5 democrat house reps, and worst of all pushed gun control laws on the people

Yeah, some conservative bastion of a state that is.
