im on a quest to watch famous films that ive somehow never seen.
just got to L.A. and on the way I watched American History X and the Breakfast Club.
Curious on the MTVs thoughts on these
American History X- Wow, great flick. loved Ed Norton in it. it was very tense and had to look away at the curb scene. I knew with 10 minutes left this wasn't going to end well. I knew it was one of those movies were something f*cked up is gonna happen at the end.
And now for the controversial review
Breakfast Club- As a huge 80s movie fan and John Hughes, I couldn't wait to watch this. after 90 minutes of watching it I still wasn't sure what the hell I just watched. so a bunch of kids in detention for 8 hours. maybe I need to watch it again but it didn't come across to me nearly as good as Sixteen Candles or Pretty in Pink. I might be in the minority on this but just my two cents

I suppose Breakfast Club, with its movie about nothing feel, is enjoyed betterduring one's adolescence .

You haven't seen these two movies previously?
How old are you if you don't mind my asking?

American History X is depressing. Well done and all, but I'll never rewatch.
Breakfast Club is great, and if you liked Pretty in Pink more than BC then...you're just weird.

Breakfast club has to be watched in the mindset of a 17 yr old. You have to remember back to that point, questioning your future. I watched it back in high school for the first time, and instantly identified with it. It's easier to enjoy now because I can recall the mindset of myself 15 years ago.
Holy shite I've been out of high school for 15 years.

yeah I know, I wish I would have seen this in high school. its always on TV so I will watch again and see what I think. it wasn't bad, just wondering why it was a cult classic.
still love my 80s though

Definitely one of the most intense movies I've seen. Really well written and acted.

IMO despite them being Hughes movies it's a bit of an apple and oranges comparison. But as others have said, it probably has to do as well with your age when watching it. I watched it when I was younger as well and could relate better to it maybe. I dunno.

Breakfast Club
I thought it was compulsory viewing in H.S. across the US?

My parents made me watch Breakfast Club when I was in 8th grade. I really liked it. But I've always liked Sixteen Candles more.

It's not a cult classic. It's a pretty mainstream classic.

I'm 34 and haven't seen either of those movies. Guess I'll look for American History X now.
