Used to love Hoop Dreams and Hearts of Darkness...and King of Kong.
But I can't stop watching Searching for Sugar Man.
It's like the Shawshank of documentaries. The music, the story, the main character...he's almost Andy Dufresne-esque.
Searching for Sugar Man is now my favorite doc. It's just better than most films.

I liked Ken Burns' Prohibition. It should be required viewing.

Hoop Dreams is great. I really liked Through the Fire (Sebastian Telfair) when it came out

Speaking of docs, I'm not sure if this should get its own thread or not, I noticed CNN is showing Whitey: United States of America v. James J. Bulger on Thursday. It's a documentary that was produced by CNN.

The one on Napster was strangely compelling.

I'm always surprised when I ask people if they've seen this one and I usually get "no".
Don't know if it's my all-time favorite documentary, but it's definitely up there and worth mention. Plus, it's a football story. Let's just say they didn't award it the Oscar in 2012 for nothing.
It's the documentary "Undefeated" that follows the Manassas Tigers football team, a severely underfunded and underprivileged football team -- who were even hired out as a practice team for more successful schools -- as they reverse their fortunes, thanks to coach Bill Courtney.
At times, I found myself thinking this can't actually be a documentary, it's fake, but it is real. If you've ever played, you'll definitely relate to many parts.
The part where the coach talks about his father, well, I used to have my kids carry their own sports gear, but now, when they ask me, I proudly carry it for them, even my little girl's pink swim bag, lol.
Check it out, you'll put it up there with a lot of the great football flicks. And, not just for the gridiron footage, which there is a lot.

For a multi-part - Ken Burns' Civil War.
For a single feature - the Naudet Brothers' 9/11.
(And Restrepo is a close second.)
