I think any city can feel dangerous in the wrong part of town. Hell Ruston has a ghetto where I don't feel particularly safe

Why would you stay at a hostel

in the US?

I've stayed at a hostel in chatanooga, asheville and nashville. They were all decent places to stay and about 20-30 bucks a night in a cool part of town vs a hotel for 100 or more. If you're traveling alone it's a good deal.

it's logical. We saved ourselves probably 200 bucks doing it. More money for dinner and beer. Also going to a concert and a Cubs game. Sorry we can't all be wealthy country folk like Tigerlee

You take a foreigner who doesn't know any better..someone from china, india, or europe..and drop him off to wander around north baton rouge. He will be in a tight spot.

Gotcha. You stay in a room where you get your own bathroom?

Yeah no doubt. I have night classes downtown Thursday so I'll be right by there, I'll let you know

In Wicker Park as long as you stay away from the neighboring areas to the east you will be just fine.

And avoid taking dining advice from runningtiger. Apparently the only good restaurant in the city is Portillos and the rest suck

Either some areas in Atlanta I've accidentally driven though or some shady area of Brooklyn. Probably Brooklyn since I didn't have a car to get me out quickly

You can, but those generally cost a little more. Most have hall bathrooms, but I can tolerate that if it's only for a little while and I'm by myself (with girlfriend would be certified no-go) Also some of the hostels are new and have pretty nice facilities. I did this on a solo road trip earlier this year. I could have easily afforded nice hotels, but didn't see the need in spending hundreds extra.

The Crash Pad hostel in chattanooga is an awesome place to stay. It is so clean and modern and right by the bars and restaurants.

Well yeah, that is a given. No female would want to share a bathroom with random strangers.

I looked up the one he mentioned. Doesn't look horrible.

I had to drive through there when I moved from BR. I pulled over for gas and decided I would be better off driving another 30 miles
