I've developed bad heartburn over the past couple of years and I know it's because of my drinking (love Jack Daniels) and eating late at night...I really need to take it more serious. What would be a better alcoholic beverage to drink that may not be so tough on GERD?

let's not make this into a "you're an alcoholic" or "here's why I'm not" thread

It's not the drinking. It's the eating late at night. Cut that out first and report back.

Start taking some Prilosec OTC for a month. Cut out the late meals. If no better after a month tell your primary care md who may want you so see a GI md

Sounds like every Saturday night for me. Especially drinking Bushmills shots.

Party on.

Maybe not exactly the same, but I used to get bad indigestion after drinking decent quantities of liquor. I slowly moved more and more to beer. Now I only drink beer and never have a problem with it.

It has nothing to do with the amount of alcohol because some of my drunkest days/nights have been on just beer and no indigestion. Whereas, my chest and stomach would feel miserable on like 3 or 4 small bourbon drinks and barely a buzz.

I don't really miss the liquor though. Love me some good craft beer these days.

Dark liquor gives me heartburn too, but only if I drink it multiple nights in a row. Beer during the week and Jack on the weekends would probably help.Or just switch to beer completely.
Cutting out fast food also does wonders.

I've been getting it lately too. I actually had to go home from a night out the other day because everything was absolutely burning me to drink.

I definitely don't recommend white wine

My doctor knows I like to drink, so he told me I could take a Prilosec every day as a heartburn preventative. I actually use the cheaper Equate version and I NEVER have heartburn anymore.

Drink and eat less, keep a food diary and eliminate the foods that cause trouble. I used to have it, I lost 20 pounds, and quit eating like a pig and mine went completely away.

I can basically eat anything I want now, I just quit overeating. The only time I get in any trouble is at a party where I graze all night.

It may help, it may not, I have a couple friends that are the right weight, eat well, and if they have any alcohol or tobacco they are miserable.

Do you use tobacco?
