what do y'all use for leaders?

No leader needed for reds unless using braid then a fluorocarbon leader

bridge city?? Anyone ever fished this area?
Head toward the northeastern shore of Saine Lake and into Blacks Bayou. Black's is the natual bayou the snakes back toward and into Sabine NWR.
Head back there a few miles and fish the drains into the bayou with Gulp shrimp on a jig head and if that does not work head back into the ponds into the marsh and blind cast the ponds shore lines with you favorite "search bait".
You'll also likely pick-up a few nice flounder.

I never used leaders for inshore fishing. I did use a swivel with a spoon though. I've always kept my rigs as simple as possible. For trout, a hook and a cork were all I ever needed. People make this stuff way more difficult than it is.

When we fish with larsh, everyone is always fooling with South Carolina rigs. Way more trouble than it's worth. A basic drop shot set up with a loop for the hook works as well, and you lose fewer weights/hooks.

Pearl white gulp shrimp on a quarter ounce lead head. I've also caught a few with dead shrimp wrapped around a lead head with a slow retrieve.

Elbow spinner with jig head and purple tail, spoon, top dog jr.

if the gulp or shrimp doesnt work, i end up using a blue rattle trap.

I have had some success with this on an in-line spinner.

quote:That really is a great go to lure for reds. Black/Chartreuse is a GREAT color combo, and a simple jighead and soft plastic cocahoe is great for quick casting while sight fishing. You can work it deep or shallow.

RatLTrap is something I WISH I could fish with where I fish, but it'd just be a rake. I love fishing RatLTraps.

quote:I tie whatever I'm using straight to power pro. The only time I consider a flouro leader is if I'm in super clear water like Florida, or if I'm fishing top waters for trout, because I want a little stretch in the line so it doesn't tear out of their mouths. For reds, no worry with that. Keep it simple. Anything you add (swivel, leader, etc) is just something else to fail.

I usually tie a leader on topwater a because braid tends to knot up easily especially when they're tail slapping
