but when you say boring beer, what is boring about it? I have always been curious to know when people describe a beer as "meh" or "boring" what they finding lacking with it?

I think it is because most people have a very difficult time appreciating the subtleties of flavor in lagers and lighter ales. They fail to realize and understand the difference between quality of flavor and intensity of flavor. IMO a very well-done lager is every bit as difficult to produce as a great IPA. Give it a few years and all the hop-heads will be hopped out and clamoring for lagers...

If only y'all knew the conversation I accidentally had with the president of Crescent Crown the other day ...

It was so horrible.

I'm sure they don't. Probably can't keep up with demand.

Not at all. Therein lies the problem-they have little incentive to make better beer, they are too busy printing money.

Hopefully you told him how shitty is is that they can't manage to get beer from New Orleans to Baton Rouge in a reasonable amount of time.

Do distributors typically suck everywhere or is it just another one of those Louisiana things ?

myopic wanna be mavens who think if a beer isn't an unobtainable whale then its "meh" or "boring"...this kind of crap just kills me about the craft beer crowd these days.

First:
This isn't unique to craft beer crowds, when given two objects, all things equal, its human nature to want the harder to obtain object.

Example: gold, diamonds, first edition books, charizard card, etc

So calm down with the "craft beer crowd" generalizations

Second:
Beer like Heady Topper isn't good because its hard to get. It is hard to get because it is good. If it was average they would be forced to expand into other markets to sell all their beer.

Sit down you old man

I had no idea who he was. I sat next to him at Darrel's in LC on my way to Texas for the game.

They had nothing decent on draft, so I just got an Abita Amber.

He asks if that's my "favorite beer in the world". I looked at him like he was insane, and laughed, and said no way.
He asked what kind of beer I like, which was a broad question to begin with. I told him I am partial to IPAs, but there are so many beers I love.

He asked if I like Jockamo, which I said no and said isn't even really an IPA.

I kinda went on a rant about Abita, and that's when it hit me that this dude is obviously affiliated with Abita somehow.

He then introduced himself as the president of CC, and said he just finished an Abita presentation.

I told him I stand by my opinion

He spent a while trying to defend Abita. Asked me why I would drink X beer if I liked IPAs (as if you can only like one style?).

I asked a few questions about why they suck at getting shite to BR, but then he said he's just the president for the Lake Charles area..? Weird.

He was a really nice dude, but he had zero clue about beer. And was drinking whiskey and coke.

I didn't care about my foot-in-mouth start, honestly.

Yep, definitely affiliated with Abita. Even they won't drink their beer. Sounds like you nailed it.

The style, as it is, is boring IMO. Similar to every black lager I've ever had. There's very little complexity and not much that stands out in the beer. I would say the exact same thing if we were talking about sam adams black lager or Rahr's ugly pug. Both of which I've had and found nothing exciting about.

Even if parish brewed one I'd have it once for sure, then most likely not seek it out again.

Basically, I'm not hating on the beer, I'm hating on the style.

Not being made by Parish.

that's a yeezy comment if i've ever seen one. I happened to think canebrake is one of the most boring beers brewed locally. Hence why I never seek it out. Last time i had it was at burger smith when it was either that or BMC.

Relax. I was messing with you. But if it stings a little, maybe it's because it hits too close to home.
