I don't know.

I read somewhere that he was:

quote:
a bruising down hill runner

quote:
he can make awesome cuts

quote:
has break away speed

quote:
Les likes to have a running back type as one of the return men

And I thought that made good sense, especially when you add in that he is secure with the ball which is kind of important, AND he is one of the top speed men on the team......

But then I remembered another post where a more valid reason was listed, and I found it:

quote:
putting him back there to make people happy

And I think this is the real reason.

I laffed

This cracked me up. I was thinking of that return the whole time I was reading this thread. Fournette has looked GREAT returning kicks. I would be pissed if they took him out of there.

I am NOT, NOT, NOT making comparison between Fournette and anybody else because I think they are dumb but I was curious to see if Herschel, Bo, or AP, had returned kicks as freshmen. Bo and Herschel did. AP did not but did as a junior.

Bo as a frosh - 7 returns, 154, 22.0 average
Herschel as a frosh - 6, 119 yards, 19.8
AP (none as frosh or soph) - as a junior, 7-162-23.1
Barry Sanders as frosh - 7-166-23.7
Gurley as frosh - 7-243-34.7-1TD
Eddie George - no KO returns
McFadden - 12-348-29.0
Mark Ingram - 1-26
R. Bush - 18-492-27.3-1TD
LF - 6-139-23.2

I just thought it was interesting.

He is 37th in the country in average yards per kickoff return. Out of like 99. Against Wisconsin who is a pretty disciplined ST unit.

Isn't he the 2nd fastest player on the team? Seems like a good choice.

Les speak. After 2 games does he look as fast as dural to you? Les didn't even mention TD when naming the fastest players

This.

Not saying anything against LF, but on the field so far he doesn't look like the fastest guy out there.
Does that mean he shouldn't return? No. But it's not a good excuse for why he is out there.

There you go. Do you even physics bro?

Someone with his size and speed doesn't make for a desirable target on kickoffs.

Because rbs are taught to be slow to fast through. Which means slow to the line and let the hole develop then fast through it. You dont want rbs sprinting straight into your line.

Todd Gurley and LF are not at all comparable at this point in their careers.....I agree LF shouldnt be returning kickoffs. He honestly doesnt look very comfortable doing it.

Gurley returned kicks his first game at UGA. His scored in his first one.

We have terrible blocking on our kick returning
