You can get a sensible house in a good area of Metairie for less than $175k. It won't be Old Metairie, but it won't be by apartments.
You will be west of David/Power and no thank you on that

A lot of the mega houses near MCC are doctors/lawyers/entrepreneurs who did not come from wealthy families. I'm not saying these people grew up poor or anything, but I'd bet the vast majority come from middle class upbringings.

I'd just like to know how you know any of this. It sounds to me like you're talking completely out of your arse.

Cheap? We saw what our friends who lived in the Nashville area got and realized we were being hardheaded and dumb by not making or money go 10x as far. If Nola figured it out like they have here though I would move back in a heartbeat

Not anymore. I've been out of the house market for about 6 months. But what he's saying is absurd. And with their income, $175k should be the bottom end of their budget. going up to $200k finds you several options, or at least it did 6 months ago.

That would have worked yes. In a good area as well. But now that I am here I am spoiled. We can have a brand new 2000 sq ft+ with some of the best public schools in the country for the same monthly note

And you live in Nashville, and I assume away from all your family. You make cuts where you have to.

Well I'll say that living in OM for over 25 years you generally know who owns what, where they came from and what they do.

I never said there is no old money in OM. I just said the majority is first gen wealth. I was responding to the post that said OM is no place to live if you aren't old money. Anyone who lives in OM knows that that is not the case.
