BATON ROUGE – Former LSU basketball star and 10-year pro Ronald Dupree was named a student assistant on the LSU men’s basketball staff Monday by LSU Head Coach Johnny Jones.
Dupree has returned to LSU to finish up his degree work and will follow a similar path to what Coach Jones did in his first year on the LSU staff under Dale Brown as he served as a student assistant during the 1984-85 season while Jones finished up his degree work after his college career ended.
“We are excited about Ronald Dupree’s addition to our staff as he continues to pursue his degree in electrical engineering,” said Coach Jones. “He has shown through our camps and clinics his passion and desire to be involved in coaching and we look forward to his participation with our basketball team serving as a student assistant coach this year.”

Dude had hoops.
And coming back to school to get an EE degree after a long pro basketball career. What a champ.

Great dude who deserves it. Really quiet guy off the court who studied his arse off and really put the student in student-athlete. In my years at LSU, I never had a better study buddy than Ronald. Congrats to him.

In case you missed it, he was standing in front of the PMAC with both of the Temples for the golden band march Saturday. He had his young daughter (I assume) on his shoulders.
From one LSU EE alum to a potential other

I had a class with him during the summer 3 years ago. He disappeared for 2 weeks and when he came back I asked where he went. He responded with "Oh I was in Vegas playing summer ball." Really nice guy.

I met him in front of the PMAC Saturday before the game and spoke with him for a few. I asked him what was up to and he said that he is an assistant. I had no idea that this wasn't announced yet though. Haha
He really seemed like a genuine type of guy and all around good dude. A few minutes after the band came down the hill, I saw him with CT III and who looked to be Darnell Lazare.
Also, I tailgate near the parade grounds and I saw Aaron Nola waiting in line for the pissers. Swear to everything.
And yes......... that cool story was brought to you by Bro Inc.
ETA: i just read the posts ahead of mine and it was already stated. My bad.
