"Capital One" Hack

Heads up on a supposed Capital One text message hack going around. A few coworkers and I received it today. The link looks legitimate with Capital One logos but is indeed a scam. Goes without saying hopefully, but don't submit your social security number or account info.

It's amazing that someone would just text their social to some number without checking it out. I guess that's what these people rely on

Yeah I got it a couple of times. I dont even bank with them so I knew immediately. I googled it anyway and saw the scam.

I don't bank with them either, but a coworker sitting next to me did it not realizing and had to start canceling.
Ironically enough her brother-in-law works in the fraud department of Capital One HQ.

Was watching CBS news where there is a scam involving the IRS where the scammers call people and threaten to jail or deport them if they don't put money into Money Pak account to pay off back taxes. Mostly old people and immigrants. Many times the caller ID says, "Internal Revenue Service," but still...

More to the point, don't follow links you get in unsolicited email, and carefully vet every link you do follow. You should only ever go to your bank through a link you've saved in your Favorites or password manager program.
