Prepare your anus for the price gouging during events, which is just about every weekend.

Last time I checked no one was forced to use UBER during a surge. So if I get gouged it will be by choice to have a car come pick me quickly rather than waiting an hour for a cab.

Almost forgot we get gouged by the cabbies every weekend they dont turn on their meter for "special events."

So then it's fine for gas stations to charge 10x the going rate for a gallon of gas during a hurricane ?

I cant wait for you and your kind to be driving against uber. The other weekend took a yellow cab home, dude was just shitting on uber the whole time, complaining about how he has to be more alert on picking up fares.

the horror.

Cabs and gas during a hurricane do not even come close to the same thing.

Now suppose Rouses raised the price of beer during Mardi Gras x10, that is much on par with the argument. If that happened I would go somewhere else, Winn Dixie etc.

I used uber for first time this last weekend in Houston. Didn't find the experience that much better than a traditional cab. Car still stunk of bad air freshener and I had to help the drivers with directions because they weren't familiar with the area.

the Cabbie has a point about price surging.

To me, that is complete bullshite once you get past a certain threshold. yeah 2x the fair or even 2.5x the fair I can live with…it's worth the convenience at say Mardi Gras, Jazz Fest, Super Bowl, etc to be able to find a ride hassle free and pay double what I normally pay.

But for them to surge 4,5,6x, freakin TEN times the price is absolutely absurd and is indeed price gouging…it's like those frickers who sell wood for 10x the price when a hurricane on forecasted to hit.

What is humorous is in New Orleans, you're either getting a $70 UBER ride or no ride at all, so???? There aren't enough cabs and if you ask to go anywhere outside the Quarter, they refuse to let you in. ALL THE TIME.

We had a cab charge us $150 to get back after the Houston game. Uber was 8Xs.

I couldn't get either. So lets just hold your horses with the chest beating.

This part will be a learning curve with the new service. I too also had to help my Uber drivers. Cabbies with 15-20 years experience are golden in big cities but the issue is half the cabbies in the city don't know where they are going including NOLA.

You don't have to use the service, that is my point. All Mr. Cabbie is trying to do is make arguments which don't compare to this situation.

The beer example I used is much more on par with what is going on here. Shouldn't the price gouging send consumers running back to the land of unicorns and rainbows where taxis are just waiting to provide a great service.

Uber is a market. It's fine for normal use but it's not a serious alternative to the cab company yet.

Especially in places like Houston, which I might say has the worst transit system in America, public or otherwise.

I'll never go back by choice. Can't get a cab. Can't get a train. Can't get Uber. I hate that town.
