While I agree that rap is awful, and their fans are for the most part a musically ignorant bunch, you're statement seems unnecessarily violent, and possibly racist.

No need to melt bert. You made a non sequitor comment. It happens.

Was there a different person who used to post under your handle?

"Huhhh people hate Nirvana and AC/DC to be cooool"

I think it's sort of the opposite. People hate Nirvana because it marks the end of the Boomer era of classic rock and it pisses classic rock fans off. It's even worse than hip hop, because tat least that's a different genre, this is ROCK fans rejecting the establishing canon. How dare they?

Anyway... overrated albums by decade:

1960s:
The Doors: S/T - A crappy band's most praised album. If I could erase one band from existence, it would be the Doors.

1970s:
David Bowie: Ziggy Stardust - I like Bowie a lot, but this album is so massively hyped and its such an uneven mess that puts more work into the concept than most of the songs. Buy Diamond Dogs instead. The best songs are available on compilations anyway.

1980s:
The Stone Roses: S/T - Look, it's a very good album, but it's still overrated as hell. To listen to the British press talk about it, this album contains the cure for cancer instead of some decent Britprop. no album could withstand the hype it received.

1990s:
Jeff Buckley: Grace - Another good album that can't withstand the massive hype and praise heaped upon it. The best song on the album is a cover of Leonard Cohen. It is a glimpse at the talent we missed out on, but this is not the masterpiece, he never got to make it.

2000s:
Animal Collective: Merriweather Post Pavilion. Nigh on unlistenable. I tend to think of overrated albums as being good albums that are simply overpraised (an album must be rated to be overrated), but this album hits the sweet spot of being both crappy and being ridiculously hyped.

I like The Doors (especially that album) but could see why someone wouldn't like them.

Wow. I always thought of Ziggy to be a near-perfect blend of concept and brilliant individual songs. So much greatness on that record.

Once again I completely disagree. I think it is underrated if anything (especially within my generation). The outro to I Am the Resurrection is simply one of the greatest studio jams of all time. The band's instrumental chops are phenomenal. Squire's brightly toned guitar throughout the album is very impressive and unique. Thick dance grooves and catchy pop. Top 10 album for me.

I agree here. He has a great voice, but other than that it is whatever.

Another big disagree. I thought this was one of the last 'complete' albums to come out before the complete digital takeover. IMO it is Animal Collective's peak.

I don't care what kind of movement Nevermind started. Being a game changer doesn't necessarily mean it's a great album.

Dirt and Core blow that album the frick away.

1960's: The Monkees - More of the Monkees. This was the best selling album in the U.S. in 1967. It disgusts me to think a contrived television act could have that kind of commercial success.
1970's: The Partridge Family - The Partridge Family Album. See 1960's.
1980's: Madonna - Like a Virgin. MTV's curse on the entertainment industry.
1990's: Madonna - Erotica. See 1980's.
2000's: Madonna - Confessions on a Dance Floor. See 1990's.
2010's: Madonna - MDNA. Will someone please find a counter curse!

He was a hell of a guitarist, too. As for the best song on the album being Hallelujah, I have to strongly disagree with that.

Lover, You Should Have Come Over
Last Goodbye
So Real
Eternal Life

All were better songs. My personal favorite from it is Lilac Wine.

The only possible answer for the 90s is Nevermind. People still claim that it changed music. It wasn't even that original in what it did. It was just the first one that the record execs got behind.

Jeff Buckley: Grace

Dude, most people in this country don't even know this album exists. I don't think it is overrated at all. Great songwriting, heartfelt emotion, sweeping melodies all in a unique sound. The dude can fricking sing and these aren't happy-go-lucky three-chord pop songs.

The best song of the album is Lover, You Should Have Come Over. The way the emotion/tension builds is masterful.

But yea, Hallelujah is one of the GOAT covers.

60's: Jefferson Airplane - Surrealistic Pillows --You can pretty much pick any JA album.

70's: The Sex Pistols - Nevermind the Bollocks -- Shitty band with shitty songs. I guess that was the point.

80's: Van Halen - Diver Down -- Half the album is cover tunes because they got lazy.

90's: Soundgarden - Badmotorfinger -- I wanted to pick any random Korn album, but I respect Soundgarden so I chose Badmotorfinger. Love Rusty Cage and Outshined, but I can't listen to most of this album. Yet everyone I knew in 1992 had this album.

00's: Weezer - The Green Album -- Liked it when it came out. But I never need to listen to that album ever again.
