Convention pricing is an incredible racket. Just a few instances from my time dealing with them (food vendors, etc) in the past:
- TV rental at $195/day
- Electrician for the center is required to install and inspect any setup with electricity. This includes plugging in devices to an extension cord: $110/hr with a 1hr minimum
- Non-vendor food delivery and allowance charge. Had king cakes shipped to a venue. $5 per package to accept the item at the venue and $7 per item that isn't on the vendor specific food list. We had 100 king cakes.

Well, yes. But convention center pricing for events...even the operation charges...are insane. Which is why I said it wouldn't surprise me if 80%+ of their per-head charge went to the venue and their vendors.

Agreed. I have the same experience with conventions.

All of you who are trying to defend the chapter to those that are clueless, don't waste your time. These are the same people that get off bitching about everything in life. Never satisfied! You've got to truly feel for them!

Not trying to pile on, but I do want to validate some of the complaints I have seen so far, specifically the length of the lines and the mediocrity of the food. Stood in line for about 20 minutes for food and once I got to the front I was told to pass through once and make sure I got my money's worth because I couldn't come back. So I decided to try a little of everything.
A woman I don't know actually expressed her concern to me over the state of the jambalaya as I was shoveling it onto my plate. She had cause for concern. It was 99.9% rice with tiny scraps of some meat like substance. Basically, it was the Gunner Kiel of jambalayas, did not have the CHEST to lead a tailgate. (The other dishes, bbq sammiches and self-assembly tacos, were solid for what it's worth.)
Anyway, I left after about an hour. I wouldn't go so far as to say it was horrible, because I know it's a tough thing to pull off, but it definitely wasn't great. The negative impressions are an accurate representation of what I experienced.
It didn't ruin my weekend or anything, and I appreciate the efforts of those who planned and volunteered during the event. I stood around in a climate controlled environment, ate enough to get me through the night, drank some adult beverages, and had access to a TV so I could watch Bama look like poop vs. WVU. So it was whatever.
I realize that there is no real ideal way to accommodate a crowd of that size so I just kinda charged it to the game and moved on. And it's not like the scene outside was a whole lot better. Beers were slightly cheaper, but the lines were just as long if not longer. Plus no AC and the parking lot was sparsely populated.
So again, it was whatever. Good job, good effort. It was never gonna come close to a home game either way.

Houston we had a problem.......I was there....it wasn't great....long lines....mediocre food (and that's being generous)......nice AC but that's about it. Won't be doing that again anytime soon.

It was aweful and they should be ashamed. 20 minutes to get in, 25 minutes to get nasty arse food of which they ran out, 30 minutes for each drink.

What a complete dumbass! There were about 6k-7k people that showed up for this. A lot of which at the same time. There were many rushes thoughout the afternoon. Approximately 6-8 people worked the door. The turnout was greater than expected, but we handled it well as the line always kept moving. PLEASE don't come to the next one or anybody's cause all you will do is complain like a spoiled brat! The chapter knows it was a success! Thanks to the thousands that showed their appreciation!

Not arguing about this anymore! It's pointless! I had no issue with anything, except the alcohol line. There were several cash bars throughout the event, but I admit the tenders were a bit slow. Other than that, everything was fine for us! As far as the food, I didn't eat until roughly 6pm and I had a full plate. Eat earlier next time because food was prepared for the prepaid tickets, which was over 4000. Those that didn't prepay didn't get a meal ticket.

Are you kidding me? You guys charged $75 for people who didn't pre-pay to afford them the opportunity to stand in line and pay for $7 beers and watch other people eat bad food? I'm sure they were happy with that situation.
