The first thing we do is laugh our opponent off stage when he states that Russia is our top enemy in 2012, then we fast forward 22 months and wonder what the hell is going on.
This has been in the works for several years and all of the top people that walk around with heir heads out if their asses knew this then. The answer lies with the intelligence community and away from this current administration. "We" can't do anything about the situation but voice our opinions at the pills every time an incumbent is up for re-election. "We" had our chance in 2012 and failed miserably.

Russia, nor anyone, will ever attack or bomb or nuke American soil.
I picture you being the guy in your sig pic saying that with a serious southern drawl.

According to one Fla State fan on this board, asurob1, the only sensible thing to do is surrender to Russia.

Lot of cynical comments here.
The Russian economy is beginning to really stink. Over $80 billion in capital has been removed from the country. Russia's largest oil company and biggest taxpayer, Rosneft, is asking the central government for $40 billion in loans because capital has been cutoff from them. Food prices are increasing. Dead bodies of Russian soldiers are already being returned home.
The country is already in recession. Putin's popular has crested.
If I were Obama, I'd disrupt the partnership between Putin and ExxonMobil. XOM has committed to investing about $500 billion over the next several years in order to help the Russian do something they cannot accomplish by themselves - artic drilling - the technological knowhow is what XOM brings to the table.
They are currently beginning the first test well in the Artic.

Sanctions would surely hurt XOM too, but they need to pick better partners than the thug Putin.

Developing the Arctic is vital for Russia, where energy provides half the state’s revenue, to maintain oil production near a post-Soviet high of more than 10 million barrels a day. For Exxon, where output fell to a five-year low in the second quarter, a discovery would offer a vital new source of crude.
“The well is very important, it’s probably one of the most interesting wells in the global oil industry for many years,” James Henderson, a senior research fellow at the Oxford Institute for Energy Studies, said in a phone interview.

Honestly, there is not really anything other than sanctions that we can do. With that being said,Obama is still a lying spineless weasel.
Sure, but, as you acknowledge, the response is pretty much caste in stone. So what we should do has nothing to do with the current elected official in charge.

As provided in my post above this one he didn't have much choice. But what would you do?

There's this Russian alt group Bitin Elbows that has a pretty cool song and video: I Am A Bad Motherfricker Video is very cool - a little ultra violence.
The lyrics to the song, IMV, accurately capture the Russian ethos:

Gotta say thanks to rock'n'roll
It got me into a whole lotta holes
They hear my voice I touch their soul
Too bad my heart is a heart of coal
And it don't matter none If you make the juices run
The bank account will stun
I'm only here for myself
I've got a big frick you for everybody else
Not only empty but empty and loud
I wonder if my father is proud

Pretty much. I'd give him points if he went hard at their economy. Russia really couldn't do the same back to us. I doubt they have that much influence and their new buddies China might not want our economy to take that much of a beating. China is attached at the hip to us.

It's football season, I'm preoccupied right now. Obama and his crew got this. I told him to let me know if he needs my opinion.

Russia should do what America does. Invade countries, destroy those countries. Murder people around the globe in the name of peace, democracy, MTV, or whatever, you know, just be a complete a-hole that the whole world hates.

You buy that plane ticket to Kiev yet?
Or are you still formulating your plan to stop the Russian Bear built on world domination?
We still await your grand plan.

Sink the oil market and you sink Russia. That's all they have to sustain what little economy they have.
But of course we're not going to do that because we're too busy blowing the house of Saud.

I would be talking with European leaders to try to get a coalition together to provide air support for Ukraine, and actually attack any Russian units that attacked Ukraine. Attacking Russia itself would be off the table, only Russian units inside Ukraine and only those that are aggressive.
I would also be talking with Nato allies about beefing up military presence along the Russian border which is what Obama is actually doing. He's going to draw another line in the sand after the last one was stepped over by Putin, and say "Please don't invade any Nato countries, Mr. Putin."

That's a fine distinction that I don't think Russia would appreciate. You're basically proposing an actual shooting war with Russia which I don't believe we have ever done.

draw a line in the sand trap?

Supply and demand bro. Open up our untapped oil fields, build Keystone to get more cheaper oil to refineries faster. Supply the market with more oil than it needs and simple 6th grade economics will do the rest.
A great by product is the EVERY American good and service will then be cheaper. This stuff really isn't rocket science.
