Primo XL is more versatile due to its shape and size, IMO.

I actually shattered my grill during a move. Primo sent me a new one, no questions asked. Needless to say, I have nothing but stellar things to say about their warranty.

The ability to simultaneously direct and indirect cook on it is outstanding. If I were to buy a traditional round shaped kamado, it would be a Grill Dome. They have all stainless hardware and thicker ceramic than the competition.

I would choose the Kamado Joe Big Joe over the Primo XL. You get another 52 sq inches to cook on and the divide and conquer system. (Until that came out I leaned more Primo and Grill Dome but the D&C is just awesome.)

Price wise they end up the same since KJ comes with heat deflector, ash remover and coal divider and cart. Plus there are some places online you can take another 10% off the price. (If you got it online Big Joe would end up way cheaper)

Cooking wise at that class level the KJ,BGE,Primo and Grill Dome all cook about the same. You cant really go wrong with one over the other. But what they come with and what you pay for it makes a world of difference. You can compare all of them side by side at Shoppers Choice.

Both are great grills. If you like to reverse sear your steaks or prime rib, the primo's setup makes it the choice. Personally, since I've begun reverse searing, I'll never go back. My steak's are cooked perfectly to temp with a great char on the outside.

An example pic of the reverse sear method from google. My pics aren't accessible.

And why cant you reverse sear on a KJ? You can even have your cooking grates at 2 different levels.

I'm not comparing pre-2014 KJs to Primo.

This was a game changer for KJ this year.

You can. I was comparing Primo and Green Egg because that's what the OP wanted. In specific response, though, personally, I think having the oval for reverse sear is advantageous even if other setups allow for similar direct and indirect zones. Also, by way of information, the grates on the Primo can be at different levels as well. Again, the KJ was not what I'm addressing.

The first rule of wickclub is you don't talk about wickclub on the intranets. Email is the preferred method, CP3.
