maybe the academy should enter the shows into the categories then

Yea I think its idiotic that a. the shows chose to enter the categories they did and b. the academy let them.

True detective would have destroyed the mini series category but I don't think that is what they wanted. They wanted to be judged with the best. It's a shame bc AHS cleaned house in the shite category and TD barely got anything.

True Detective as a mini-series would make a lot of sense if it was a mini-series and not a show that'll be reprised next season (even if with new characters).

ETA: FWIW, I don't really see American Horror Story as a mini-series. That seems like a cop-out to rack up awards.

True Detective is definitely a mini-seies.

They're doing exactly what American Horror Story does.

Wasn't BB shot mostly in New Mexico? And True Detective of course was shot in Louisiana.

I'm wondering if the move away from Hollywood to outlying locations has played any part in the great quality of the shows being produced now?

IMO something like John Adams was a mini-series.

And as I said in my post, I don't buy that as a mini-series since it's a recurring show. Even if the storylines change from season to season.

So they allow AHS to be miniseries even though it's recurring?

The seasons are self-contained so I think they fit better into the mini-series category.

But I understand what you're saying

Ah, but the lovely Jessica Lange is a recurring character (even if a different name, it's pretty much the same part). Really, though, I don't think there's a meaningful distinction between True Detective and AHS as far as being a mini-series or a regular series.

No series was ever going to beat Breaking Bad this year.

Has Mad Men had a year like breaking bad has for the last 2? Racking up all the wins?

So much "good" shite to choose from now. I am obviously a Mad Men homer. But I can see how it gets muddled and shows get snubbed.

Poor Jon Hamm has been stuck in a living individual Emmy nomination hell with the guys he's gone up against. Last year should've been his year.

Be interesting to see where HBO puts True Detective next year.

I don't think Mad Men has ever won an acting award. Hamm should have won a few years ago when Breaking Bad wasn't eligible. That was the year he submitted The Suitcase.

Jon Hamm has his best chance to win next year. No Cranston and probably no threat from True Detective as I think they learned their lesson and will go back to miniseries where they belong. His stiffest competition will probably be Spacey, Daniels, Rhys, and Michael Sheen.

It's a travesty that Hamm hasn't won yet (especially since one of his losses was to fricking Jeff Daniels), and even more of a travesty that Mad Men is something like 0/40 in the acting categories despite having four series wins.
