it seems somewhere like Rutgers could become more of a power, it's a massive school near New York City - but I have no idea of their facilities or want to spend money on football.

They get a couple players from the New York area here and there, but Rutgers has a lot more success pulling kids from NJ/PA/MD/VA. A lot of very good athletes come from those four states.

Unfortunately, they are in the same division as Ohio State, Michigan State, Michigan, and Penn State.

East Carolina and UConn have potential because of the league they are in. ECU has a nice fan base, decent recruiting territory and are the only school in NC that is football-first. Uconn has lots of money and a desire to have their football program on par with their bball.

Princeton is the ultimate sleeping giant. They won 22 of the first 40 national titles between 1869 and 1909. More championships than even Alabama pretends to have. They've been asleep since about 1950, when they won their last national championship.

The best answer so far. MD/DC/NOVA have MORE than enough talent right there.

Maryland is a basketball school at heart. The administration has to really push and promote football. Edsall is a decent coach, but he'll never take them to an elite level.

If you list Princeton then you need to add Minnesota.

Sleeping giant to me indicates that the school was once a giant in college football. That eliminates most of the schools listed.

I don't take that meaning at all

FSU for example was a sleeping giant before Bowden woke them up - their institution and their recruiting grounds meant they had very few limitations with the right administrative support and coaching

The fan base is very band wagonish though but if they were to go all in on football and provide top notch facilities like Oregon's and the A&M's and such and build a nice little on-campus stadium, they could be a power now that we have a playoff.

This has to be a troll. Where in Manoa do you recommend building an on campus stadium?

I love how everyone outside of California thinks they understand and know UCLA.

You don't know much about the West Coast.

Stick to the SEC.

And you can't become a giant - if you've been sleeping so long - without having access to the hot recruiting beds...

Oregon finally got tremendous access to Cali after UCLA and USC and Cal fell apart in the 90's...and if you've had access to all the talent but remain asleep forever...you aren't a sleeping giant...you are in a coma...forever...UCLA is in a comfortable life-long coma...they know who they are...a basketball school.

Anyone been on campus who is posting here? Well I have...bookstore is all basketball stuff and jerseys and videos and nothing more than basketball.

They don't embrace football like other schools. So get your facts straight. You need to understand the culture to declare someone a sleeping giant.

Oregon and UW before their power in the early 90's just never had access to Cali...and UW and Oregon...can never survive on their own up there in the NW...they always need either USC or UCLA to totally suck...
