How would the planning be different?

I've wondered this myself. If we haven't really seen either of them much, what do you do? If we see Harris they might run all of the stuff they normally run. If we see Jennings, they might run all of the stuff they normally run. Better prepare for all of that, I guess.

The players and coaches see who is doing better and who's getting a few more snaps with the one's. Miles is just keeping the competition going as long as possible, but they(coaches/players) have a very good idea of who will be starting next Saturday. May see both of them play next week...may not, but they'll both get plenty of PT during September to sort this out. Not a big concern IMO

This just irritates me so I'm going to go ahead and say it. A lot of individuals on here keep saying, "what would you do coach? They don't need your advice or opinion".

This is a forum. I doubt many here think they know better than CCC and CLM. It's a forum to express our ideas and opinions. Obviously the coaches know better than we do. They are at practice and behind the scenes. But attacking someone based on their opinion, no matter how ridiculous is pretty ignorant. We are all entitled to our opinions.

Then that tells me the true freshman is way better and by all accounts has beaten the veteran at progressing....it's just a matter of time and it is a sensitive team issue as well, but obviously Harris is very good.

LOL, no. If they both still think they have a chance, they'll both be competing and training as hard as possible. Iron sharpens iron.

In 2006 they had a Veteran and a future Heisman trophy winner. This is not the same situation.

I've already given you a situation in Michigan State last year that fits our "experiment", yet you did not reply. Are you just looking for people to agree with you?

if jennings hasn't flat out beaten harris out for the QB job yet, what does that say about harris?

what does that say about jennings? who has been in the program a year longer than harris?

if anything it hurts the development of WR/QB relationship.

It most likely means that they see advantages in both QBs, but they are not sure which set of advantages gives LSU the best chance to win.

I have a very hard time buying into anything that concludes with Miles/Cam not knowing who they plan on starting at QB in 10 days.

Helping Move In

Does Harris look like he's ready to play SEC football? I just hope he can take the hits.

Here are my thoughts...

First, to answer the question, no, it's not hurting both QB's because the plan for developing them both wouldn't change regardless of which one is named the starter. They are both young and are constantly developing and neither has hit their ceiling.

I am fully expecting Jennings to get the nod as starter for a number of reasons:

1. Physically, because he has been here longer, the coaches have a better understanding of how to use his physical abilities to help the team. The team has been perfecting plays designed around Jennings for over a year. There are more unknowns with Harris. (I'm not talking about arm strength)

2. Mentally, he spent all last year getting use to the speed of the game behind ZMet and has faced an opponent on the college level. Not to mention the advantage Jennings has regarding practice time under Cam.

3. Confidence. I have a very dificult time believing a true freshman can come in and START game 1 on the college level and excel. I realize there are some exceptions but it's just not the norm. I give the edge to Jennings in this area.

4. A sub-par performance in the Outback Bowl is not enough to write Jennings off. It was his first start as a true freshman and the game plan was not designed for Jennings to shine, just to come out with a victory. Besides, the majority of plays last year designed for Jennings were running plays because of Met's passing abilities.

All of this being said, I think the world of Harris and think he's going to win NC's. I have no doubt Harris is going to be one of the best (if not the best) qb LSU has ever had, but he might not be above Jenning's level right now. And frankly, I believe Jennings deserves his fair shot! I do see Harris getting a lot of playing time this year though.

As fans, we need to give our full support to whomever is behind center and show them it's awesome to be a TIGER! And if someone loses their starting job we need to have their back because you never know when we'll need them and they'll get a chance to redeem themselves.

Last but not leastly....

it does concern me a bit, since the coaches have seen Jennings for over a year and have seen Harris since spring practice.

I'm a big believer that the QB is the leader, and I do believe it helps when the rest of the team knows who that leader is as early as possible. Then the offense can develop chemistry and cohesiveness, and more reps for the starting QB clearly helps that.

By not announcing a starter (even 10 days before the opening game), it shows there's not much separation between Jennings and Harris, and I just don't think that's a good sign, because Jennings looked very average against Iowa and in the spring game. Hope I'm wrong though.

What it shows is LSU lost its 2 yr. QB starter and the LSU staff opened up the competition as is the normal process when the starter doesn't return and you dealing with youth at the back up role.

Who knows what the future holds for us at QB, but I see no reason for concern over the process at this time. Anyway, I am pretty sure the staff has known the starter.

Last time we had a 2 qb system we had the best regular season in LSU history. I'm not all that opposed to it happening again.

That's too simplistic. Again, we had A LOT of help from turnovers and special teams in 2011. I wouldn't say our dual QB system with JL and JJ was the reason we were successful.

We thrived in 2011 in spite of our QBs, not because of them.

Dual QB systems rarely work. Remember the old adage: "if you have two QBs, you really have none."
