If you're alluding to Jake Matthews, don't worry. He may be a rookie, but he is no ordinary rookie. He's already proving it.

I don't know what that's suppose to mean.
It means Matthews is already proving he's sub ordinary.

Matthews is being pushed into a starting role before he's ready. It's not going to be pretty this year on the line.

"Aints" is right up there with LSU fans being called corndogs.

So terrible.

honestly, who do yall consider you're top 5-6 players on defense?

Just a guess, but he can't name 5-6 guys on D. Maybe 3 on O.

I'll try though...No particular order

Soliai
Biermann
Moore
Weatherspoon (IR)
Trufant (2nd year CB)
Babineaux

Would Tyson Jackson be in the top 6? Maybe take out Trufant. Just a guess here.

Thats the best I can do without looking at the roster.

lose ONE wide receive - from nfc title game to top 5 pick

and now they're without tony gonzalez who was a big time chain mover and red zone target, and their only improvement to the line is a first year rookie with a 50% chance of flat out sucking

My favorite. On a scale of one to ten how confident are you that the falcons will beat the Aints?

Key of the game I think.
I don't think the birds stink like many around here or think it will be an easy win.
Putting pressure and putting matty on the ground is really key.

And as someone said watch for the birds being really chippy in this game. Their heart has been called out and they are thinking on this opener all off season.

I thought Falcons fans were being delusional about the Defense. Then I clicked the link. 75% of the posts over there aren't that confident about the D for ATL or want to see more in pre-season before they give an assessment.

Meh. Keep sleeping on us. Pride cometh... pride, fricking, cometh...

Smith and Nolan know what this game means to us and more importantly Blank. Better believe Nolan brings out the play book. We'll probably see a lot of exotic stuff.

A lot of exotic stuff.

Are they just trying to use fancy words to sound better?

Honestly while he had the highest floor of all the top tackles because of his technical prowess, he also had the lowest ceiling because of his physical attributes.

Some draft places were saying he'd be a good to great RT but a subpar LT. Then again Baker is their LT so...

Trufant is more than likely their best defensive player.

None of those other guys even concern/scare me.

Soliai is solid against the run at times but he is getting up in age.

Jackson has largely been a disappointment. He flashes at times but has been far too inconsistent.

Biermann has shown he can flash but has yet to prove he's anything more than a situational pass rusher(and they decided to sign an older, more expensive version of him in Umenyiora).

Moore has been extremely inconsistent. Had he one great year, but outside of that has been average at best and downright terrible at other times.

Babineaux is pretty much just like Soliai, only better. He shows a little more pass rush but has never been dominating. I thought keeping him(and some other guys) and letting go of Abraham(a guy that did give me concerns) was one of the worst decisions they made over the past few years.

Weatherspoon was showing to be a pretty solid player but hasn't been able to stay healthy and you know that's keeping him from becoming a great player. Real shame they lost him again(from a Falcon fan perspective).

Alford shows promise and is a decent number 2 at this point. He could become a good-great player but only time will tell.

Lowery was actually a pretty solid pickup for them as he has been a solid player but not spectacular in anyway. But he may not even last the season(or preseason for that matter).

Worrilow played well for a rookie but was far from dominant. Just because you make a tackle doesn't mean you are playing well, especially if everyone else around is so bad you have to make that tackle 5-10 yards down field. Probably the most overblown thing about him.

Bartu played well at times, but again was far from special or consistent.

I said before the draft Hageman was likely going to be a big bust. Just seems to not be totally in it(think Sed Ellis). Maybe they can push his buttons and drive him to be good but until he proves it(which he hasn't so far in camp) I'm keeping my predraft opinion of him.

Maybe Shembo becomes something or maybe not. I know he has some talent but will it translate?

All of their nickel corners are subpar, as are pretty much every backup. All of these pass rushers they are hoping all of sudden become good are who they are. They just aren't good enough period.

The Falcons are maybe two injuries from total disaster on defense. If Trufant goes down they are fricked.

Yeah, no falcons fan should be confident in our D at all. If Alford can improve to a true #2 and Trufant plays at the same level that he did last year, maybe they can cover long enough for our D to get some sacks.

The focus has been on our run game. We pretty much know we can have success in passing, even when our pass blocking is subpar, which it was for a good part of the season.

What I think will be key is how disciplined your linebackers are. Defending zone running teams is all about gap discipline.

I honestly just think you need to get another guy in the head coaching spot with some balls and some vision.
