Will Pedro get a higher % for his HOF ballot than Greg Maddux got?
Greg got 97.2%
Pedro is eligible next year.

Pedro Martinez's 2000 season is likely the best pitching year of all time.
C'mon Old Hoss Radbourn went 59-12 and 2 saves with 1.38 ERA, 441 K's and 73 complete games in '84.

Just like rlebl39 said....
For a career, it's Ryan, and its not even close.
For a "best season" or "peak years", Pedro.
Also, Pedro had the advantage of playing for WAAAY better teams and benefitted from a lot of run support (not that he needed it when he was rolling).
Ryan was on some bad Angels teams, mostly bad Astros teams, and really bad Rangers teams in his career.

Corn Tuckner had the best season ever in 1893.

Pedro also pitched during the peak of steroid abuse. In the best division in baseball w/ a DH, and a hitter friendly home field.

Pedro had ERA+ of 243 and 291 in back-to-back seasons. He had a stretch of 219, 163, 243, 291, 188, 202, & 211.
There are only 37 seasons of 200+ ERA+. 18 of those 37 seasons came in the dead-ball era before 1919.
Pedro pulled 5 of those 19 200+ seasons after the dead-ball era in a 7 season stretch.

His 1997 year with Montreal was right there with it.

I would probably take his '99 season. A .100 BABIP difference is the only reason his 2000 ERA is an inch lower.

Ryan's career counting # are better than Pedro's due to longevity, but they're in two different stratospheres when looking at ratio #s within individual seasons.
Not talking career or individual seasons. Talking one game situation where both are at their best. It is a coin flip then. They were both unhittable at their best.

People from the Great State of Texas is going to say Nolan Ryan
People outside of the Great State of Teaxs will say the Pedro Martinez

Then Pedro without a doubt.

Pedro's 7 year stretch from 1997 to 2003, he had an ERA+ of 213.
Ryan never had a single season close to an ERA+ of 213 and only 1 of his 27 years was within 70 points of that average
Hell, Pedro had a career ERA+ of 154. Nolan only had one season with a better number than that

Josh Tomlin had a complete game 1 hit shutout with 11K this year. That doesn't mean he's not significantly less likely to do it again.
Pedro was a lot more likely to be dominant than Ryan was

I'd take the one with the most all time strikeouts
I would take the better strikeout pitcher
Strikeouts Per 9 innings Career Average
Nolan: 9.5
Pedro: 10.0
