One of his first acclaimed movies, and pretty great dark comedy.

Man, just like PSH you forget all the great movies he was in.

Both were in Patch Adams.

I scroll through this thread and said Oh yeah.. That was good. Yep, forgot that one... Man, I need to watch that again... etc.

Robin Williams was/is one of my favorite actors. Brilliant performance in Good Will Hunting and in everything he did. Ironically one of my favorite movies is one of his least recognized roles in Bicentennial Man..... LINK

===============================================
Rupert Burns: What do they say?
Andrew Martin: That you can lose yourself. Everything. All boundaries. All time. That two bodies can become so mixed up, that you don't know who's who or what's what. And just when the sweet confusion is so intense you think you're gonna die... you kind of do. Leaving you alone in your separate body, but the one you love is still there. That's a miracle. You can go to heaven and come back alive. You can go back anytime you want with the one you love.
Rupert Burns: And you want to experience that?
Andrew Martin: Oh, yes, please.
Rupert Burns: So do I.

if none of you has ever seen it, check pout The Fisher King with him and Jeff Bridges - one of his best roles.

quote:

Parry: It begins with the king as a boy, having to spend the night alone in the forest to prove his courage so he can become king. Now while he is spending the night alone he's visited by a sacred vision. Out of the fire appears the holy grail, symbol of God's divine grace. And a voice said to the boy, "You shall be keeper of the grail so that it may heal the hearts of men." But the boy was blinded by greater visions of a life filled with power and glory and beauty. And in this state of radical amazement he felt for a brief moment not like a boy, but invincible, like God, so he reached into the fire to take the grail, and the grail vanished, leaving him with his hand in the fire to be terribly wounded. Now as this boy grew older, his wound grew deeper. Until one day, life for him lost its reason. He had no faith in any man, not even himself. He couldn't love or feel loved. He was sick with experience. He began to die. One day a fool wandered into the castle and found the king alone. And being a fool, he was simple minded, he didn't see a king. He only saw a man alone and in pain. And he asked the king, "What ails you friend?" The king replied, "I'm thirsty. I need some water to cool my throat". So the fool took a cup from beside his bed, filled it with water and handed it to the king. As the king began to drink, he realized his wound was healed. He looked in his hands and there was the holy grail, that which he sought all of his life. And he turned to the fool and said with amazement, "How can you find that which my brightest and bravest could not?" And the fool replied, "I don't know. I only knew that you were thirsty."

Sorry. Fixed.

This movie is timeless and strange and beautiful. It made John Lithgow and Glen Close huge stars and proved that Williams wasn't just Mork the assclown. It's also a fantastic comment on modern feminism, its good intentions and hysterical fervor alike.

It's a film about a life. In light of his recent death, I can't think of anything more appropriate. If I had to choose one of his movies over all of the others, it's Garp.

"You look familiar. Have I seen you somewhere before?"

"Do you like football."

Also, The Survivors with Walter Matthau, Jerry Reed from Smokey and the Bandit and Ione Sky from Say Anything also gets an honorable mention.

I love his stand-up, live concerts like the one on HBO 8-9 yrs ago on New Years Eve. 2 hrs of non stop deep from the gut laughing till it hurts and all he had for props was a small table & a bottle of water. I know from a family member who works there that he is loved at St.Jude's Children Hospital, both for his charity & and his personal time he gave the children there. I can not even imagine of the energy & humor flying through the air when he & Jonathn Winters got together as they often did.

As an avid golfer, I absolutely love watching this. As someone said, a table and bottles of water.

Gonna miss his work so much
I think sometimes a person's life makes a difference. I believe Robin Williams was such a person. He touched a lot, I mean A LOT of lives with his work. But I believe it was his humanity behind that work that really touched us. I will miss his work; moreso, I will miss him, the person.

I really hope TCM does a Robin Williams movie marathon. The guy really has played a lot of quality roles in a lot of see'em again movies.

The guy was as good as it gets when he actually did serious roles.

I agree 1000% His comedy was going 100 mph and my simple brain can only go 50mph. But DPS, Awakenings, and GWH he was excellent.
