The French thought the same thing at Dien Bien Phu.
That was also a case of picking a REALLY bad location to withstand a siege.
IIRC, Dien Bien Phu was at the bottom of a valley with mountains all around. The VC dug into the mountains and shot mortars at DBP, which the French weren't really able to take out due to the kind of cover the VC had.

e Iraqi Army in the city has mobilized and the PM personal guard is rolling out as well. Also reports of locals and even women taking up arms.
This isn't what you think it is. It's more like Maliki is refusing to step down despite strong calls for him too (hell half the reason the Iraqi tribes are fighting with ISIS is because they hate Maliki) and his supporters are taking up arms to keep his opposition away from him. Now there was some initial build up after ISIS took over Mosul, that was for city safety, but any buildup in the city recently has been about keeping Maliki safe/in the PM position

You're questions are valid ones. But ISIS simply doesn't have the skill necessary to take on what almost amounts to a battalion of US Marines that are guarding the embassy. There are carriers in the Gulf and I would imagine a Marine Expeditionary Unit standing by with another reinforced battalion. Not to mention the SOF forces working with local units in Baghdad and the second front with the Kurds in the north. I'm sure the troops at the embassy have cleared the necessary fields of fire and have a solid fire support plan in place.
all of disssssss

There are differing reports of him not stepping down or a show of force to tell ISIS dont try anything.

You'll excuse me if I think the worst of Maliki.
He's a good chunk of the reason that Iraq has degenerated from relative piece into a genocidal clusterfrick.

Just to tag on this, the security guys in the area when I was there were saying ISIS was spreading itself thin and stretching its supply lines too far by heading south after taking over Mosul. With the 3rd front in the North (south Iraq and Syria) they are really stretching their people and supply lines to their limit per my understanding. Granted they were able to get all the fancy toys we gave the Iraqis

A chance at total success? Probably not. A chance to have multiple KIAs on the American side? Absolutely, but hey - lol right? I mean it is likely not your son, brother, husband, friend, etc. who will be coming home dead or maimed so go forth with your fricking lols and defending the frick up that is this person in the White house.
They would have to claw their way just to the green zone.

They don't just have a few AK's and grenade launchers anymore guys. They have captured and are using a lot of the serious stuff we left over there because the Iraqi soldiers are such candy asses. Plus they are gaining control of resources where they can just go buy what they want.
The one thing they don't have which is the ultimate player in combat is air power.

Yeah lets blame the administration for everything that is happening
you realize that the kurdish resistance in syria and Turkey (PKK) is labeled a terrorist group and they are the one that helped the yazidis flee and offered them safe haven

Hell no. I was on days off getting ready to go back when the 2nd front opened up. First the American clients suspended their operations and as of 2 days ago my base was evacuated expect for a few people. I'm not even "allowed" to go back until further notice. So now I'm in Equatorial Guinea

Man y'all got no idea. It's great to just be out of the Middle East for a while. It's great not getting woken up at 4 AM by the call to prayer.
But really it's work, so just kinda go where the tell me to and this one came up after everything. Don't know if this will be my new "permanent" location or not, but I'm here for a few weeks now regardless
