PFF Stats of Saints, Preseason Game #1

Another year, another round of PFF analysis.
As always, take these stats with a grain of salt, especially since this is just preseason.
OFFENSE
-Kelemete with the best run blocking. Impressive backup. Maybe can replace Grubbs someday. But some troubling pass blocking.
DEFENSE
-Tyrunn Walker got most of his scores from run defense. I didn't even notice that all that much.
-No one was particularly impressive in coverage except for Warren. He's definitely someone to look out for.

You've never seen PFF stats before?

You really didn't notice Walker? He made several plays in the backfield.

Props to the poster who called out Uko for making plays.
Also a positive that the starting three new interior linemen on the O-line didn't grade in the negative

I love PFF
...my vote (that PFF backs so far) is get Humber and Fortt in, and Hawthorne out
...and some impressive scores from Kelemete and Warren

I like PFF stats per game. Per game they are very useful cuz u can kinda figure what plays was how they calculated scores.
Also Watch Nic Jacobs. Dude Can Block strong while moving quickly! Practice Squad worthy!

Things I'm seeing off the bat:
Mark Ingram: 0.7 pass block (3 total pass block)
Khiry Robinson: 0.2 pass block (3 total pass block)
Senio Kelemete: 1.8 overall, 2.7 run block, -1.0 pass block (Looking to me like Grubbs gonna go byebye in 2015 offseason if this keeps up)
David Hawthorne: -1.3 in 13 snaps (8 run, 1 rush, 4 coverage). -0.4 in pass coverage...

That's a very negative score from only 13 snaps.

Some notes on PFF.
quote:
Cooks
All eyes were on Brandin Cooks as the first-round pick made his NFL debut in the midst of what’s been, by all accounts, an impressive first training camp. And he didn’t disappoint, as late in the third quarter (3:50) he turned a seven-yard pass into an electrifying 25-yard touchdown. Cooks made one cut and turned on the jets, making corner E.J. Gaines (who otherwise had an impressive debut himself with a +1.6 overall grade) look silly in the process.
quote:
Tyrunn Walker
After a monster preseason a year ago, injuries derailed what could have been a productive season for Tyrunn Walker. The Saints’ end is off to another blistering start this year, notching a +3.2 grade in 32 snaps. While he logged a sack rushing the passer, his best work came in the run game. His effort was particularly strong in the third quarter; at 9:00, he knifed through an attempted reach block to drop the ball-carrier 3 yards deep in the backfield. And then on consecutive third- and fourth-down plays, he denied the Rams first down yardage, beating the reaches of Sean Hooey to make the tackle. If this level of play continues – providing he stays healthy – Walker will surely see more than the 119 snaps he logged last season.
quote:
Josh Hill
While one tight end dominated headlines in New Orleans this offseason with his contract dispute, it was another tight end, second-year Josh Hill, who stood out in this game. The highlight came at 11:55 of the second quarter, when he took nearly took an 8-yard pass from midfield to the end zone, running through several tackles and showing off decent speed and elusiveness on the 50-yard gain. He added another first-down grab later in the game while also making a tackle during kick coverage.
quote:
The three Saint backup quarterbacks combined to complete just one pass over 10 yards in the air in 36 total aimed pass attempts.

PFF Game Ball
Let’s recognize Mark Ingram, who reeled off several long runs on his way to 83 yards and a touchdown on just eight carries

good notes
the more reps the more the PFF stats mean
Hill, Kelemete, & Cooks shined in that regard
Anxious to see more of New Iberia boy Tyrunn fulfill some of what he flashed last preseason.

i'll be honest....i don't think PFF stats mean shite
Posted on 8/11/14 at 9:34 am to Choctaw
they really don't on an individual game basis. But they are nice to look at on the season.
Posted on 8/11/14 at 9:36 am to saintsfan92612
They can if someone plays a decent amount of snaps.

PFF, imo, is not the end all. It doesn't tell the numbers for everything.
What it can do is point out a player struggled in a certain situation or way, and if you were bored and rewatched the games you could see what plays probably affected it.

Warren
this dude has something special about him that will force Paeyton to keep him on the roster. Seems to have a knack for finding the ball.
