I think he may actually believe me now, if he's a smart chap.

I didn't realize banks had so many half dollars lying around

The banks really don't have them lying around. Sometimes they have a few loose coins but I've had to order $500 boxes at a time to sort through. I sorted through about 10 boxes over a four or five month period. Averaged about one or less 40% per box. Ended up being more trouble than it was worth. And some of the bank people act like you're trying to pull a fast one when you ask for half dollars or order a box.

They don't. You have to request they order the box for you.

My coin collection has not changed whatsoever in the past 7 - 10 months. Life has gotten in the way from coin roll hunting which is my main focus in adding new coins (primarily hunting silver pieces). I wish to get started with ordering halves from the bank soon. My biggest problem is I am on pace to finally freeing up enough time to get back into the groove of searching through coins but now football season kicks off in just a week. First world problems

I do keep a spreadsheet with details about my collection regarding dates and coin types as well as another spreadsheet tracking the silver value of my collection. Unfortunately I do not have them available on this machine and instead backed up on an external. If I get around to restoring the spreadsheets I will try to list some of my inventory here.

Here are some pictures I took previously showing parts of my collection:

Silver pieces, steel pennies, and buffalo nickel

Nice!

Looking at your 'Walking Liberty" half dollars reminded me that I've always thought that particular issue is one of the most beautiful art works on a coin. Unfortunately, because of the height of Lady Liberty on that coin, it wears down quickly.

I have several of them, too.

Nice Rick!

And I am in your same boat, since February I haven't gotten anything. I was working my way through the Silver Eagles, getting two of each year for my kids, but it has been halted for a little bit.

I am glad to have the Walking Liberty halves that I do own. My mother owns a nice little collection of Walking Liberty halves, yet has an ambition to turn them into jewelry or decorative pieces (punching holes into the coin for necklaces, etc...). Definitely crushed my coin boner I had going at the time when I was looking through her collection.

Thanks

When I do get started again with building my coin collection, this board will more than likely be the first to know the results. I have found that bringing up my coin collection only serves as a buzzkill to the conversation with the majority of my friends and family

I inherited some coins awhile back and have started getting a little more interested. I used to just be interested in silver content. I've started thinking more about the numismatic value. I see a lot of the coins are grades and slabbed. Should I stick with graded coins? What is the lowest MS value to buy? Thanks for any help.

I have a set of 27 silver dollars minted in New Orleans, one for each year they were minted 1879-1904, trying to decide if I should get the 3 or 4 that are the most valuable professionally graded for the possibility of selling in the future.
