Not all that different. Addiction is addiction is addiction. Some might be harder than others to kick but the fundamentals are primarily the same.

That's approximately two pints, right? How is that even possible?

So a full on drug that if you are addicted to, and if you stop using your body will shut down... Is the same as someone being an alcoholic?

ETA I'm not laughing at you CA... The struggle is real, but it can be overcome! And much easier than any hard core drug out there. Your future is bright, just seize the day man!

Lol. I knew a guy that downed a fifth of jack and a case of beer a night. Easy

Not arguing that, but a "real bad" heroin addict can't stop using because they will die. Hence the beginning of methadone!

There are alcoholics who go into full blown seizures during withdrawal.

And where's the motivation in all this?

Ok... People live through seizures everyday.

I'm not saying it's easy, just saying don't compare it to a full blown H addict.

I know where you are coming from OP. I used to abuse it bad, very bad. It'd got to the point where I would down a fifth of vodka a night, then have a couple beers after it. No matter how sick I got, how much my family begged me, I would not stop.

I did try to stop cold turkey one night and ended up in the back of an ambulance because of DTs. The docs told me that after drinking as much as I did for as long as I did that just stopping like that could kill me. The told me to "walk it down." Well after that night I did walk it down. I was ready to stop.

And that is the key. You have to want to stop. All the meetings, all the steps, and all the rehab will do no good if you are not ready to stop. You'll always find an excuse for why you need "Just one drink." But once you have made up your mind and are ready, you will find you do have the will power after all. Good luck buddy. You're in my prayers.

Fever, agitation, convulsions, hallucinations. Withdrawal from alcohol is very serious.

I'm not saying it isn't... But anyone comparing an alcohol detox to a heroin detox is just stupid.

Just like the poster just said he had a bad alcohol detox... I bet he didn't get addicted to another drug just to stop doing the one. That's real

Actually, alcohol detox can kill you, heroin/opiate detox will just make you wish you were dead.

And methadone? Lulz, I'd say it is harder to kick than heroin or any other opiate.

While in rehab, the methadone maintenance users were the ones that had the hardest time. Harder than any other opiate user, heroin included, meth users, alcoholics, etc... 3 weeks in and they were still climbing the walls, even with the help of suboxone/subutex. Those in for other opiates or drugs were doing much better in the same time period.

I'd bet that every single MMT patient I met in rehab relapsed, that is out of the ones that didn't leave AMA.

Just dry yourself out for a couple of days then decide.

Sometimes I get into the "I'll have one more & another pinch of copenhagen."

Then three hours later I'm listening to Triple U's on The Jim Rome Show.
