But anyone comparing an alcohol detox to a heroin detox is just stupid.

Calm down bro. I'm just saying there are similarities. And people don't "need" either. The comedown and recovery might be a bitch but no one "needs" substance abuse.

You serious? And quitting cold turkey as a full blown heroin addict can't kill you?

Look... I'm not saying it's easy, but there is a reason heroin addicts are subjected to methadone. Just saying

I'm calm man... Sorry if I came off otherwise

I'm just saying that people are subjecting this guy to something that cannot be overcome. Alcoholism CAN be overcome and it starts with the individual.

Full blown heroin addicts have an exponentially harder route... And most never make it through.

My apologies for derailing your thread.

Hopefully you will be ready to quit soon as it sounds like your life has become unmanageable due to alcohol. I wish you the best and hope you're able to get things under control before you really do hit rock bottom and hurt/kill yourself or someone else. Just as I wish the same for myself or anyone else who is an addict or alcoholic.

Good luck.

"1/2 a handle"

Been a while since I've heard that term.

In my prayers man. Alcohol can be the devil for some people. I see it all the time in the ER. Like others said, cut your drinks down slowly and then maybe go to an non-alcoholic beer and see what happens. Just stopping cold turkey is dumb and you could have seizures that are life threatening. If a 12 step program isn't for you then my advice is to cut back and ask your family for support/love while you go through this. You can whip this addiction. You got this. Good luck!

Thanks for posting this. ETOH WD is significantly more dangerous than Opiate WD as far as life threatening conditions are concerned

alcohol detox can kill you,
This is true.

To the OP, I was once where you were with how much you were drinking.

I know this has probably been said but it's true... only you truly wanting to quit will work.

When I decided to stop drinking a fifth+ a day I had the shakes in the mornings, very bad anxiety around people (even close family members), and absolute hell falling and staying asleep. This only lasted about 10 days or so. While I am not truly "sober" right now as I only drink on Fridays and Saturdays, you really need to consider cutting back at how much you are drinking everyday. I am probably being hypocritical here as some either see it as SOBER OR NOT SOBER kind of way, but I am so much happier than I was when I was blacking out every night. My relationship with my gf, my parents, brother and sister, ect is exponentially better. I don't have to worry about smelling like booze every morning when I go into work.

I started dealing with some of the things that was making me think I had to drown in the bottle every night. I don't have all that straight and don't know if I ever will

Anyway, I hope you can take this for what it is worth and hope things improve man. Good luck

ETA: and if you are considering rehab, only go if you really want to. I was sorted shoved into a 30 day in patient rehab center and was drinking on my second day out of there

Half a handle per night........I think I need a sponsor.....

A sponsor as in you maybe you could wear or display some company logo while you drink and they'll pay you? Or maybe supply free booze?

You know alcohol and benzo withdrawals are the only ones that will actually kill you, right?

No. It just makes people wish they were dead. Just back away from the topic as you have no idea what you are talking about.

As opposed to a full on drug that your body will stop working an die due to withdrawals???
