I think I'd like to keep it to those two countries. We have two cities we want to spend time in Germany and then in Italy we'd probably have 3 cities we want to spend time in. 5 cities over 13 days seems fine.
I get what you're saying about Switzerland though. I'd think we can see the Bavarian Alps one of the days we planned on being in Munich.

I disagree since there are multiple places to visit in each country, especially Italy.
Definitely. I think you need 2 weeks in Italy alone. I would personally couple Germany with Switzerland, Austria or the Czech Republic, but this isn't my trip. For a honeymoon, I'd say at least $400 per day, not including airfare.

Stick to your guns. I don't like city hopping. We did 2 weeks in France alone and felt like we barely touched the surface. Especially for a honeymoon. You're going to want to have some peace and relaxing time together.
Good luck!
Eta: budget - I'd assume 150 euros per night for hotel, 50 euros per head per day for food, throw in an extra 750 euros per person for travel while you are there. That comes to 5000 euros for 14 days or $6,750 not including airfare. I'd say your $10k is safe. May even be conservative.

My fiancee really wants to go to Italy. I'd be fine with going from Germany to Switzerland and Austria but it's not just about me. Italy seems like a beautiful place too so I'm fine with it.
Aren't you in Germany now?

Yeah I live in Germany. In the wine area. It is beautiful.

Positano was our favorite place in Italy
My wife and I just had a 2 week vacation to Italy. Positano was tied for our favorite place with Varenna. I wish I was still there.

I just spent 7 weeks in Europe for under $5k. I'm assuming you're looking to stay in much nicer places than myself, but a 2 week trip shouldn't cost anywhere near 10k.

I'm guessing the wine area is near the border shared with France.

Yes. Just southwest of Frankfurt. West of Mannheim.

Wow, Cinque Terre is beautiful

Stay in some damn hostels. You're there to travel, not lounge.

If it was me and my brehs, we'd stay in some hostels. Not making the boo do it.

You can find great vacation deals to Italy and Germany on Expedia. You can save big bucks on hotels this way. You can do this for much less than $10K and stay in very nice hotels. Train travel within Europe is not expensive and is quick. Likewise intra Europe flights are very reasonable. Plus check with a good travel agent, they can be very helpful but usually can't beat Expedia vacation prices.

Yeah, we're definitely going to talk to a travel agent. I'm open to looking at airbnb as well. Travel agent seems like a good idea since it would help me to come up with a plan. I don't want to be standing there dick in hand, not knowing what to do.

I usually carry about $60K, but I'm pretty frugal.

Depends on how frugal you want to be. $6-7k is plenty. We usually budget 150/ night hotel and 150/ day food, drink, train travel, etc. We usually have no problem staying under that budget. We stay in decent places with our own bathroom (en suite). We try to rent an apt. off VRBO.com if we are in any one city for more than 3 days. That way we can eat breakfast at the apt on some mornings.
